Craddock would relish captain call

Thursday 3rd July 2008, 11:31AM BST.

Wolves defender Jody CraddockJody Craddock admits he would relish any call to be Wolves captain again.

Craddock and Michael Gray are currently the oldest and most experienced players left at Molineux, following the release of skipper Gary Breen at the end of last season.

The former Sunderland defender, who turns 33 this month, signed a new one-year contract earlier this summer.

He now has his sights set on leading the side again, after taking the armband under Glenn Hoddle.

He said: “If I was asked to be captain, I’d love to be. If I’m not, then I’m happy just to be a part of the team.

“Sometimes the older players can take it in their stride and I don’t feel as if the added responsibility affects me.

“If anything it can bring your game on a bit and when you get to my age, you are just trying to play consistently.

“Responsibilty sits easier as you get older – you learn to cope with the pressures and the outcomes better.”

““I’m just happy to go out there and do my thing. I want to be in the team. I know it’s going to be difficult because there’s going to be a fight for places.

“I’m never happy in the reserves and I was made up at getting the extra year’s contract. At the start of last season I thought I wasn’t even going to get one year.”

“I wasn’t pushing for two because I knew I wouldn’t get it.”

Craddock has so far seen Richard Stearman sign this summer and knows the club are still after Hearts defender Christophe Berra.

He said: “I know Richard did very well last season and got named Leicester’s Player of the Year.

“I have not been at a club which hasn’t brought a centre-half in every year – whether it be Cambridge, Sunderland or here.”

One of the team’s few success stories. He has earned the right to wear the shirt, unlike some who let us down last season.

As the most inspirational of the current crop of players, he has probably earned the right to the captaincy as well.

    THERE’S ONLY ONE JODY CRADDOCK!

Here is a classic example of fickle wolves fans. This guy was slated by some wolves, fans silmilar to Neil Collins is right now.

Just goes to show that players improve.

Try and use your noddle please lads. I can see the cringe already. Numpty wolves fans booing Collins everytime he gets the ball. If you plan on doing that please stay a way from Mol or you will get a gob full off me. And I am BIG!! LOL

Craddock could teach Stearman and Berra a thing or two about defending. Whether he gets the captaincy or not, Craddock will be the heart of our defence again next season.

Craddock would be the first to defend Collins. Our defense overall last season was one of the best in the division – it was the attack which was the problem.

I still cannot understand why Breen was let go. he will return to haunt us I fear.

By the way did you know that Paul Butler has been made assistant manager at Chester – even though he had been suspended earlier in the season for an alledged rude gesture to fans…
He was another who should have been kept in the squad.
