Youngsters from South Staffordshire learned all about aeroplanes during a trip to the RAF museum at Cosford.

Children from Codsall and Billbrook middle schools spent the day at the Royal Airforce Museun, near Albrighton, where they took part in a variety of fun activities.

The 10 and 11-year-old were told what it would be like to go up into space during a talk about astronauts before taking part in their very own rocket race.

The youngsters each made their own areodynamic rocket car from paper before racing them against each other in the air craft hanger.

They also had the chance to construct and fly polystyrene areoplanes.

The children then took a look round the museum’s interactive gallery which includes a range of hands-on ebtertainment to teach them about the science behind flying.

The event was organised by the Royal Aeronautical Society to celebrate 100 years of British aviation.

Sue Fitzsimmons, head of access and learning at the museum, said the children had all had a wonderful time.

“They spent time in the hands-on gallery which has over 20 exhibits.

“It was a fantastic day and all the children left with a goodie bag,” she added.
