A notorious stretch of the A449 Stafford Road near Goodyear was once again the scene of a smash after a woman’s green Citreon Xsara Picasso crashed and landed on its side at the busy roundabout today, causing delays.

And a lane of Penn Road heading towards the city was closed off by police yesterday afternoon after a white Vauxhall hit a lamp post before flipping over and landing on the pavement.

Lengthy queues built up at the traffic lights opposite the Rose & Crown pub where the accident happened just before 4.30pm. The driver, a man in his 30s, escaped with minor injuries.

In 2006 a speed camera was introduced between the island and McLean Road following 26 accidents in just three years, prompting residents to call for an anti-skid surface to be laid down.

Also last night two cars crashed just before 6pm in Coalway Road, Penn.
