Boss backs demonstration

The latest haulage fuel protest in London was today given sympathetic support from a family firm based near Wolverhampton.
No driver from K Transport Services at Slade Heath, near Coven, is taking part in the rally.
But director David Kay said: “We are supporting them from a distance. I suspect it will mostly be small firms and owner drivers taking part, but they have our full sympathy.
“We are a bigger firm, with 70 vehicles, and we tend not to get involved in direct action but we absolutely understand what is driving people in our industry to this action.
“It is almost getting to the stage where you don’t dare take a week off because the fuel prices will have changed and you have to go back and talk to your customers.
“I don’t think there is any hope of the Government cutting the duty on fuel, of their giving us any money back, but I do think the Chancellor is eventually going to have to drop his plans for that further hike in duty he announced in the Budget.”
