Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Eastwood given 48 hours to move
Tuesday 1st July 2008, 11:59AM BST.
Wolves have given Freddy Eastwood 48 hours to resurrect his move to Coventry – or they will call off the £1.2m deal.
Eastwood has so far refused to accept a healthy five-figure settlement on his Molineux contract, despite having secured identical wages and a four-year contract at the Ricoh Arena.
The Sky Blues have grown impatient with Eastwood during the negotiations and have tried to distance themselves by claiming they are “99 per cent down the road” to doing a deal with Clinton Morrison.
Wolves believe the Eastwood deal is still not dead, despite the move for Morrison, so the Molineux misfit could yet end up at Coventry as well.
Ironically, Eastwood and Morrison share the same agent – Neil Fewings.
Both clubs have agreed on the finances of the Eastwood deal. Wolves claim Eastwood is the only party who is holding everything up.
They have taken the ruthless step of threatening to pull the plug on whole transfer, without having an immediate buyer waiting in the wings.
Eastwood has already returned to pre-season training with Wolves, while Coventry jetted off to their training camp in Austria without him yesterday.
Wolves’ threat means they run the risk of having an unhappy player on their hands, but chief executive Jez Moxey remains hopeful this latest jolt could spark Eastwood into accepting the deal on the table.
Moxey has announced Wolves have bids in for other targets, after missing out on Peterborough striker Aaron McLean.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson revealed yesterday that Mick McCarthy had accepted their £5m valuation was too much.
Wolves had two bids rejected for last season’s League Two 33-goal top scorer – the top one being £1.5m – and must now move on again after previously missing out to Rangers for Burnley’s Kyle Lafferty.
Moxey added: “Of course we have other targets – we have never pursued just one target. We have bids in for other players.”

Oh dear the messiah is holding out for a payday, ahwell the southbank cronies will no doubt back his stance over this

Can anyone honestly say this guy is good for Wolves?

The bad apple in the barrel… get rid ASAP before he starts poisoning the rest of the players with his attitude and negativity.

shatpankwolves, you WISH you could sit in the southbank, the fact that you’re obviously not says a lot about your stance as a fan.
I suppose you agree with mick and the blind alleys he keeps leading us down. Give him some money, and a decent squad and he hasnt got a clue what to do with it. . . FREDDY, FREDDY, FREDDY
Report abuse
if you dont want him we’ll gladly have him, he’s your best striker IMO
Report abuse
I dont like anyone giving Wolves the runaround, but thick mick brought this on himself and I quite like watching jez n mick jumpin thru hoops …
Report abuse
What a bunch of muppets!! Let him go, he is lazy, overpaid, and arrogant!! The alleged ‘South Bank’ are shouting *&$£!!! And as for the consistent ‘Muppet Mick’ jibes, grow up…

I was initially doubtful about the idea of getting rid, but MM seems to be spot on. Eastwood appears to be a greedy little shite holding out for an undesrved final pay out. He must have pocketed a signing on fee from Wolves and then would be in line for another from Cov. How then can he exoect a golden handshake?
We are better off without the little parasite
Report abuse
As for comment number 4… the guy was the best thing that happened to wolves for a long while. He accepted us and we accepted him. the only thing that mick couldnt stand was that freddy was a bigger star than he was. Double M is the one who is no good for this club.
One minute he wants young and starving players, the next its old timers who are the answers to the riddles that run through his head at night.
The real truth is, at the beginning of the season freddy waso n his way to a goal a game and just because he refused to be brainwashed by micks northern mumbling he sought to get rid ever since. Mick would take a ‘yes’ man like keogh anyday over a goalscorer
Report abuse
Give me strength…
This just goes to confirm he is an idle #*@$. He’s obviously not bothered about playing football, the money is more important.
Freddy please move on.
Hasn’t he gone yet??? Cant believe with him being in the top 5 strikers in the world he hasnt been snapped up by now. There must be loads of clubs in for him. How many strikers with his goalscoring output and great attitude are about. Seems strange to me. Perhaps like Wolves, people like Wenger, Mourhino and Jimmy Mullen like to do their business away from the glare of the media…

Southbank – such a shame mate, you managed an entire post yesterday that wasn’t entirely made up of capitals – I thought things were looking up for you ?
Still, you are one of an ever decreasing minority that seem to think this guy is some sort of legend – based on all those goals and hard work he put in last year of course……
Im so booooooooooored of this story. Please just leave our club.
This whole saga is fast becoming a disgrace and a stain on the whole history of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
We now have what appears to be a bullying Board of Directors forcing a player to move within 48 hours – surely this would not be allowed anyone else than in football ?
And a popular West Midland newspaper printing comments (No 2) which border on racism ?
Some of you boys posting at the top must think that Eastwood is bigger than the club. At the end of the day, he doesnt fit in with how we play, he`s lazy and we just have to accept he wont play for us again! I remember when Andy Johnson was at blues and he was awful then blues paid 4m + johnson for Clinton morrison who was even worse and yes, Johnson went onto bigger and better things but as many of my Bluenose mates say, even in heindseight, he would never have been the player he is now at Blues – So sometimes players dont fit in! Maybe it isnt just Mick, have you noticed when we score – he never celebrates with the team, maybe they dont like him! Get behind the decisons and the team rather than fighting for one player who wont ever play for us again!
The darling of the south bank finally shows his true colours! No wonder Mick wants rid. The guys attitude stinks!
At the end of the day between them Moxey and Mcarthy were responsible for bringing Freddie Eastwood to Wolves and if they now realise it was a mistake and his contract states he entitled to a payment for goodness sake get it sorted.
Just pay him up and let us get back to concentrating on the season ahead.

21) you hit the nail on the head. Thick Mick and the fat controller bought him here.
Thick Mick told him what a star he would be and then dropped him and refused to play him.
Why should he leave when all he wants is to play in the gold and black.
Lets kick out the other and let freddie partner SEB up front.
How can we be so keen to get rid of a player who is obviously a goal scorer and obviously has quality ?
If he is a bad apple as some comments suggest lets have Mick telling us that, so far his only comment is he has nothing personally against him.
Freddie Eastwood is good enough to be in our squad and if he finds form he can offer a very different attacking style to the headless chickens we currently play
He should be kept for another season

Wow what are you Freddaaaaays lovers on ?
What is it that makes you believe he is so good ?
To be honest we all know you are not real fans……….

Spot on 19, sometimes a player just doesn’t work out as planned to. That may be his fault, it may be his teamates rejection of him, it may be the style of football, either way if it doesn’t work best to move on. Now for the more contentious part, when Freddy came he signed a contract for “X” years. If he asks for a transfer he forfeits his right to the paying up of his contract. If however he is being sold on by the club against his wishes, he is contactually entitled to payments agreed within the original contract signed. Put it this way, if your boss told you were off down the road and were not going to get any redundancy due to you, would you tip your cap and say “fair enough guv’nor” and walk away? Of course not, if we want Freddy out, we have to be big enough to stand by the contract we signed in the first place, Tyring to turn the heat on Freddy for being greedy is just diverting the attention away from the morals of the club. Freddy go, Wolves pay him what he is owed! Nuff sed?
Maybe the contract states that if he doesn’t put in the request himself, which he didn’t, he was entitled to a percentage of his remaining salary. Maybe Jez is trying to get shot on the cheap (in relation to the contractual agreement) and once again he uses the media to tell one side of the story. Maybe he’s hoping Freddy thinks he’ll lose the backing of a number of fans with this and take the money and run.
Just an opinion since I never believe anything Jez tells us anyway.
According to Coventry Moxey is refusing to pay Freddy a lump sum he is legally entitled to. So why is this article written to suggest it is Freddy that is the problem?
Suspect when Freddy does eventually leave then the vitriol coming from Molineux and FE should be quite explosive !!
Mick has yet again proven that his Management skills in handling difficult players is highly questionable. Roy Keane must be smirking every day he hears about this.
Since when does one guys make a team. Please some of you look at yourselves.
Inthe words of Morgan. “sod off and tare apart some other club”.

atleast fans dont have to go too long without a good rumble… any opportunity to slag each other off eh.
Maybe we should turn the Mol into a Wrestling Arena and realise its true potential.
I cant ever remember such a divide in the club’s faithful – incredible what one thick stubborn northerner can do.

In addition to that. To all the Freddy fans, not Wolves fans. Go and support Coventry when they buy him. That will make you happy.
Come on Wolves, lets have a great season,

Spot on 13. I sit in the SB and cant wait for Eastwood to go. He has talent but is now showing his true colours – greed! Moxey is doing the right thing – no player is bigger than the club and we wont be held to ransom.

THE SOUTHBANK WILL MISS YOU,SO WILL THE REST OF US FAN’S BUT DON’T STAY JUST FOR A PAY-OFF,THINK OF YOUR CAREER.THE LONGER YOU STAY THE MORE THE FAN’S DISSAPPOINTMENT WILL TURN INTO HATRED,PLEASE DON’T TURN INTO ANOTHER TRAITOR LIKE HENRI CAMARA WHOOSE CAREER HAS DROPPED LIKE A BRICK IN THE OCEAN.
LET US NEVER MENTION THE TRAITOR’S NAME AGAIN,EVER !!!!
No this thick stubborn northerner has not devided fans it is stubborn ignorant fans who believe we have devine right to get promoted and have this unhealthy fascination with such an average striker !
So these so called ‘fans’ would rather see another season with Mr Eastwood throwing strops causing a divide in the squad rather than a the sucess & togetherness that was displayed in the 06/07 season.
The Coventry Chairman is being quoted on other news sources as saying the problem with the deal is that Wolves are refusing to give Freddie the money that he is legally entitled to in his contract and so Freddie is refusing the deal until they cough up.
Once Eastwood has left all will be revealed as to why Mick wants rid.
My guess is MM is showing some decorum choosing not to publicly embarrass Eastwood with his behind the scenes antics, as he did with Keane.
If we want to sell him then you dont advertize the guys vices.
Eastwood has been a bad egg since he joined us and I would back Mick over this guy everytime.

Sort this farce out before August 9th.
We cannot have another season of Mick v Freddy scenario like last season.

But,we all have to be together cum August 9th.
Last season wasa a complete waste for all fans.

Why don’t you go with Freddie to another club and carry on your whining there?
We don’t want you at our club with that attitude

15 – do I detect a hint of sarcasm there mate? Love it!
Freddy has really started to show his true colours now, if it was about the football like he said, he would have been long gone by now, I just hope Moxey and McCarthy stand firm, and let him rot in the reserves if he starts trying to play games

I know MM thinks he doesn’t cover enough ground in 90 minutes but giving him 48 hours just to move – I didn’t realise he was as lazy as that!

who needs Fred when we’ve got SEB? Make him train with the youth sides, i think he’ll be quite happy at their level
Report abuse
31….. You are 100% correct.
It’s not Freddies fault he’s in this position. The club should pay what he is owed and allow him to go.
The morality of the club is an issue here
Black wolf (46) what do you mean by saying that Freddy has been a ‘bad egg since he joined us’. I haven’t heared anything about this. No player has said anything so give us your evidence or apologise to Freddy.
I find it extremely difficult to understand some of the above comments. No player is bigger than the club and Moxey and MM are completely correct in the way they are handling the Eastwood issue.
Why slate 2 men who have the best interests of the club at heart? You were all chuffed when they quietly went about their business and signed Stearman.
It’s about time we all grouped together and back club-minded and not money-minded individuals at Wolves. Eastwood wants to get away asap but, from what I hear, only if his pockets are filled as well!

i hope ppl will stop saying that us the south bank love freddy becuase for one i dont and im in the southbank. yes i do agree mcarthy treated him wrong but a striker is here to one thing and one thing only to score goals, yes keogh may not be prolific but he scored 14 goals, which is 10 more than FREDDDDY.
I beleive we should get rid of freddy and buy someone with a better mentality and footballing attitude, someone who plays for the team and not himself.

Well another 58 comments on soemone who clearly only has money at heart. Just clear off Freddie, your numbers up!
I cannot believe such utter drivel about this guy

Its not the way he performs on the pitch , its his mentality and attitude towards the team and mick. I donr agree with how he is being treated but, if he hasn’t got the drive and passion to play for wolves let him go…

This article is a complete misrepresentation of the facts and has been written to make it appear everything is the fault of the player.
Firstly, any contract being offered by another club has no bearing whatever on the the contract with WWFC, which is current and legally binding.
Secondly, regarding the compensation that FE is legally entitled to : COVENTRY HAVE OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF IT. WOLVES HAVE REFUSED TO PAY ANY.
That is the reason the transfer has collapsed.
WWFC is entirely at fault here and there is only one course of action left.
TAKE WOLVES TO COURT F.E.
