The boy, aged 10, had been cycling in Leacroft Road in Penkridge yesterday evening when he came off the bicycle.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene just before 7.30 last night.

Community paramedic officer Stewart Abel said: “The lad was lying in the road when we arrived.

“He had been riding with an adult at the time.

“When we assessed him he had a bad swelling in his right thigh and we were concerned about his condition.

“Despite the obvious pain, the lad was very brave about the situation,” Mr Abel added.

“I requested the air ambulance was tasked with the incident and the County Air Ambulance from Cosford was sent to us at the scene.”

The youngster was then airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
