Jones delighted with Wolves move
Friday 27th June 2008, 3:33PM BST.
Wolves’ new boy David Jones has expressed his delight at joining Mick McCarthy’s men.
The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal after sealing his £1m move today from Championship rivals Derby County.
He said: “I am delighted it’s all done. It seems as if it’s been a long process but finally it’s done.
“I’m delighted and looking forward to pre-season now. Wolves are a massive club with great history and I’m really chuffed to be here.
“I’ve met a few of the players this morning and a fair few members of the staff and everyone seems great.
“Hopefully now I can show the fans the sort of player I am and help the team.
“I like to think I can create chances for others as well as try and score goals themselves.
“Midfielders these days have also got to be box-to-box players and help the defence out as well. I’d like to think I could help in all departments.
“Wolves are a massive club and from looking around the stadium today I’m just relishing getting going. It looks a special place to play.
“I just want to try and work myself into the team and show what I can do.”
Jones had mixed feelings about his time at Pride Park.
He: “It’s been mixed emotions for me at Derby.
“From winning the play-offs and getting into the Premier League, then came relegation.
“You have ups-and-downs in a career, especially in football. You just have to make sure you never get too carried away with the success and never get too down with the disappointments.
“If I needed it last season will give me more fire in my belly to do well. I know this is a great opportunity for me to do well and impress.
“They are a traditional footballing club which all the staff are geared into and that suits me down to the ground.
“I think this is the right stage for me to push on and progress with my career.”
