A major new housing scheme has almost been completed on the site of a former row of dilapidated shops in Wordsley’s main High Street.

The development has transformed the rundown High Street and is a key part of plans to breathe new life into the area. Rows of empty shops were branded an eyesore by residents and plans to demolish them and build homes were welcomed. Work started soon after road improvements were carried out to the junction of High Street and Brierley Hill Road.

The scheme featuring 23 three-bedroom town houses and one and two-bedroom apartments on the corner of High Street and Kinver Street.

It has taken around a year to complete.

Developer Selbourne Homes will be unveiling the scheme which has been given the quirky title of Rhubarb.

The showhome will be open for would-be homeowners to view from tomorrow.

When construction is fully completed it will be the final phase of the High Street’s redevelopment.

Selbourne Homes managing director, Gavin Warr, said it had been an exciting project and one which had changed the face of Wordsley High Street.

The development has been designed to appeal primarily to first time buyers and young families.

The housebuilding company has also recently been responsible for redeveloping the site of a former pub in Dudley.

Flats have replaced the arson hit Cross Keys pub in New Rowley Road.
