Saddlers look to first signings

Thursday 26th June 2008, 11:23AM BST.

walsall-kit.jpegWalsall manager Jimmy Mullen is hoping to bring in new faces to the Banks’ Stadium within “the next few days”.

The Saddlers boss has been busy scouring the transfer market in a bid to beef up a Saddlers squad currently short on numbers.

Mullen, speaking at the launch of the club’s new home and away kits for next season (worn by Troy Deeney and Rhys Weston above), is hopeful his first acquisitions are just around the corner.

He said: “To get the right players takes time. Hopefully we will be able to have an announcement in the next few days, where the start of the new faces will begin.

“We have three or four irons in the fire so let’s see what happens.”

Mullen called for patience from supporters, insisting the most important thing is making sure he brings in the right players.

He said: “It’s about getting the right blend. I could have gone out there and got 12 players very easily but they might not have been the right 12 players.

“I am a great believer that you have got to be right.”

3 or 4 irons in the fire? We need a darn sight more than 4 players!

I agree with phil, we need a whole team to even compete in the division next season. Same old story, classic Bonser!!!!!!!!!!!
THE CLUB MUST THINK WE ARE STUPID.

I’m with you guys. We need a minimum of TEN players, and anything upto 14 players to have even a SMALL squad at this level. I’m afraid if it is left to raw and untested kids, then we will be back in League Two by Christmas and Bescot will see one of the biggest demonstrations ever seen in these parts!!

I am stupid. I’ve got a season ticket, doh!

I totally agree, 4 players is not enough and the protest at the last game has gone without reaction. We should see what we have signed at the start of the season and then arrange a sit-in or boycott a game.

Yet again, the same story. Have you got nothing better to right, ther or four players, we need ten more players at least. Look at the shews, spend £140k on a striker. Why arent we going for players like that. All we here is new players will be here in the next few days. We will be left with the dregs and be told how they are ones for the future!!!!
Bonser OUT! and take you muppet mullen with you!

Their seems to be a lot of negativity around at the moment, i understand that we all want us to sign the best players available, but the season does not start for another 6 weeks! give the club time, i believe we need to get behind the current mamagement team instead of moaning all the while!! Negativity doesnt help anyone and i can see a lot of people having egg on their face come the end of the season?

Nick, it’s people like you who allow Bonser to get away with this season after season.
The season doesn’t start for another 6 weeks for anyoney, but how many clubs have made no signings at all.
Mighty Shrewsbury have splashed the cash, how can they do it?

Oh dear. The unintelligent, illiterate Walsall fans are out in force!!
Of course we would like “10 signings” before the start of the season but the fact remains that if we can get the right 4 or 5 players in, to supplement what we have, we will have an excellent team to start the season.
Of course, we could “splash the cash”, but that’s rather unnecessary in these days of Bosmans, and doesn’t guarantee anything, as the Shrews may find out.

Yes it’s 6 weeks until the season starts, but its no good if they all turn up the day before and expect to be able to play together!

4 or 5 ShropsSaddler? Are you on drugs? The kids, apart from Bradley and Taundry, aint good enough for the first 11. That leaves Ince, Weston, Gerrard and the ‘mainly unfit’ Boertien. I think a few more than 4 or 5 are needed. Have you ever heard of a squad? Injuries? Suspensions? We had a small squad of 24 players (including kids) at the start of last season. By my calculations that is a requirement of between 10 and 14 to rival that!!!

Every single day for the past few weeks i have scoured the Express and Star on the net, and this “We should have new signings by next week ” has been going on for ages. Can JB or Jimmy Mullen point out any other side in all four divisions who are in the same position as us?
Six weeks to go and no sign of a team. The situation is farcicle.

Ian Burton – that’s it, resort to childish abuse about being “Bonser’s love child”! Excellent. And you hoist yourself by your own petard sir! “We have had it for the last 10/15 years”. Indeed we have, and relatively successful years they have been as well, if you look at the history of our club.
As for the “is that even a word” comment….well, I rest my case!
