Dolly remembered at special show
Monday 23rd June 2008, 11:30AM BST.
A plaque commemorating Black Country comedienne Dolly Allen has been unveiled and a show featuring other well-known entertainers staged in her honour.
Around 500 people flocked to Brierley Hill Civic Hall to pay tribute to the much-loved comedienne known for her trademark phrase “hello, my luvvers”.
Before the show yesterday a blue plaque was unveiled as a tribute to her unique brand of humour, always delivered in broad Black Country dialect, which entertained audiences until her death in 1990.
Ray Hingley, who performed with Dolly at Black Country Night Out shows and acted as her chauffeur, said she had won the hearts of many over the years.
Yesterday’s show, entitled I remember Dolly, was compered by Mr Hingley and also featured folk singers Penny Farthing.
