Injured teen is found in lake

Wednesday 18th June 2008, 1:43PM BST.

A teenage boy was today fighting for his life after being found in a lake at a Black Country park with serious head and neck injuries. Parts of the park remained sealed off today.

The 18-year-old was discovered in the early hours at Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, which was sealed off this morning while police investigations took place.

Officers say they are keeping an open mind about how he suffered his injuries – although early indications suggest it is not suspicious.

The lake is surrounded by 3ft high railings which are regularly checked.

Officers were called to the park at 2.40am by ambulance operators who had received a call from a member of the public alerting them to the boy’s plight.

They found the boy unconscious but out of the lake. It is unclear whether he had managed to stumble out himself before collapsing or had been pulled out.

He was rushed to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley but is since believed to have been transferred to a specialist hospital for head injury patients elsewhere in the West Midlands.
