Wednesday 11th June 2008, 7:24PM BST.

wd2851069royal-investiture.jpgWolves director and former women’s cricket star Rachael Heyhoe Flint marked her birthday in style today by picking up an OBE from Prince Charles.

Rachael, who is now 69, was recognised for services to cricket for her campaigning work with the The Lady Taverners, which helps youngsters with special needs get into sport, and the MCC.

Widely accepted as England’s best known female cricketer, she has been with Wolves since 1990, starting off as a public relations director and more recently becoming a vice president. Mrs Heyhoe Flint went to Buckingham Palace with her husband of 36 years Derrick, and son Ben, 34, who travelled from his home in Singapore for the big day.

Rachael, who was given the MBE in 1972, said she “couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present.”

“It was terrific, fantastic,” she said this afternoon.

“It was great to meet Prince Charles again,” she added.
