Wolves roar to win at Monmore

Tuesday 10th June 2008, 8:30AM BST.

Wolves roared out of the doldrums with a fine all-round team display as they dispatched of Peterborough in a 54-38 win at Monmore Green.

All seven members played a part on a hot summer’s night of good action and some controversy.

Coventry’s Chris Harris guested for Niels Kristian Iversen and was in his usual electric Monmore form, losing out on a paid maximum only when led home by Hans Andersen in the final race.

Andersen was involved in a controversial clash with home skipper Freddie Lindgren in heat 13, as the pair appeared to make contact heading into the second lap.

The Dane came down, with referee Jim Lawrence deciding the Panther was at fault and excluding him from the rerun.

Andersen was clearly unhappy with the decision and headed to Lindgren’s pit for a brief exchange of words.

Lindgren and Ales Dryml had opened the meeting in style with a 5-1 over Andersen, while Harris and the ever-improving Nicolai Klindt scored a similar result in heat 3 after Daniel King fell.

The next race saw King produce a superb outside manoeuvre on turn four to blast around David Howe and Kenneth Hansen in one move ending lap one.

Lindgren used a similar line in heat 10 in a superb last-to-first performance, which continued an unbeaten run that was finally ended by the impressive King in heat 13.

Howe appeared to have laid his recent mechanical gremlins to rest, only for them to return at the start of the final race, by which time the match was already won.

Young guns Klindt and Christian Hefenbrock stood out for the Wolves with some tough riding, the Dane roaring around the outside of King to join Harris for a -1 in heat 9, while Hefenbrock produced some robust racing to edge out Henning Bager for third two heats later.
