Car flipped over at shopping centre
Tuesday 10th June 2008, 11:37AM BST.
This car was left balancing precariously on its roof in the middle of a busy car park.
The scene, at the One Stop Shopping Centre in Perry Barr last night, drew a crowd of onlookers who watched as the emergency services tried to find out what had happened.
The silver Fiat Punto car had flipped onto its roof near to the Comet store at the shopping centre after a collision in the car park on Walsall Street shortly before 6pm.
The car overturned
Shopper Paul Richards, from Great Barr, saw the upturned car as he was making his way home.He said: “It was really strange, it was just on its roof in the middle of the car park, I don’t have a clue what had happened.
“Everyone was standing round but just looking at it. Hopefully no one was hurt.”
He added: “I was surprised to see it there because it just looked so odd. It was right in the middle of all these parked cars and everyone was carrying on around it. How it ended up on its roof there, I’ve no idea.”
Fire service spokesman Mike Fox said: “We were called at about 5.50pm. Two cars had collided in the car park and one had flipped over on to its roof. No-one was hurt, but two people were treated by ambulance staff at the scene.
“The police cordoned off the area while firefighters made sure it was safe.”
Chris Kowalik, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We had five calls.
“And a 20-year-old man was treated and taken to City Hospital on Dudley Road.
“He managed to get out of the car himself and wasn’t badly hurt,” he added.
There was some disruption to drivers as firefighters dealt with the car and an ambulance checked over the passengers.
