Carter makes home comfort work

Friday 6th June 2008, 8:21AM BST.

hole-in-one.jpgSteve Carter certainly made the most of home course knowledge by winning the team event in The Invitational at South Staffs Golf Club in Wolverhampton.

Carter had a round to remember which included a hole in one at the second with a seven iron. He helped the team to victory with a total of 59.

The win was all the more impressive as Carter was playing with one of the event sponsors, Ian Cole, who also sponsors Carter.

Carter’s solo score of 67 ensured his place in the pro-only final round today, which will be contested by the top 25 from the two previous rounds.

Simon Lilly of Kettering leads the field into the deciding round of the second Midland Order of Merit event on the calendar after firing eight birdies.

He is trailed by Paul Streeter, Scott Emery, James Crompton and Paul Wesselingh.
