Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Blog: Rumours and football agents
Friday 6th June 2008, 6:56AM BST.
Yep, lots of rumours flying around day after day, yet still we await our first arrival of the summer, writes blogger Jarrod Hill.
By being promoted automatically we all assumed it would prove to be an advantage on beating the rush for new signings, I presume Mowbray has his targets, I presume Peace has been given them, I kind of presumed we would have seen some kind of progression by now.
The on-going saga regarding Gera, Phillips, and Albrechsten could be acting as a distraction, and I wrote last week that Peace has a lot on his plate at the moment, but the fear for us fans is the possibility of missing out on key targets.
I understand there is no rush, it is a long summer, and there has been little transfer activity in general, and once the merry go round starts I am sure we will see some major activity. It is still unclear as to how much money Mowbray will be allowed to spend and it is probably a sensible approach to take when moving into a market place known for high pressure dealings, dealings very often centred around agents.
Football agents have become the focal point for many fans worries after several high profile cases, chairmen hate them and fans hate them, and the ever-increasing influence these people seem to have over the world of football today is unhealthy.
To become a football agent is now a very simple process, you make an application to the FA, you then take an exam that consists of 20 multiple choice questions, and if you fail the first time you can take it again straight away, once passed all you then need is indemnity insurance. Once all of this is complete you receive your licence, previously agents had to provide a monetary bond, but they don’t anymore.
Until I checked, I had no idea how easy it was to become an integral part of professional football, and more importantly, these people are instrumental in guiding our young players through their careers.
I have no doubts there are many reputable agents who are honest and have the best interests of their clients at heart, however when the qualifying criteria is so easy, you can also appreciate that many opportunists will see a way of making money with no regards for football clubs, fans, or even their clients.
We keep hearing how Platini wants to tidy up the world of football, I suggest he takes a look at the system to which we allow applicants to become football agents, after all they have as much a part to play in the development of players careers as mangers and coaches.
On a different note, I hope to see many of you tonight down at the Vine, I will be there from 7pm, we also have an Express and Star photographer joining us so I have had to have a bath and it aye even Sunday!!!

Great post, I didn’t realise how easy it is to become an agent either. However, i understand that agents are paid by clubs for their ‘services’, so a simple way of dealing with this would be to change the rule (if indeed there is one) so that the players pay their agents in the same way that other people pay their accountants or solicitors. That way agents fees and value for money would be transparant to the player who would then have to make his mind up if it was worth it. In the meantime I’m off to become an agent so I’ll be posting from the Bahamas tomorrow.

Great piece Bomber.
You can just imagine an agents mock exam,
the invigilator tells the candidates
“so you can all get a notion of what being a football agent requires, i have set out an example question,
a correct answer to this question exemplifies the basic mindset you must have to succeed in this business”
Would you describe yourself as.
A) A very moral person of high integrity.
B) Kind of truthful, but do not mind being devious if it suits your agenda.
C) Kind of devious, but do not mind telling the truth if it suits your agenda, even though
honesty is normally alien to you.
D) Only concerned about yourself, and the lining of ones own pocket, even to the detriment
of your client.
Invigilator
Anyone who answered A or B leave here NOW!!
and i suggest you try to get a job flower arranging.
The correct answer is of course D,
however for those of you that answered C
all is not lost, you do show promise,
with a little guidance you may still succeed.

When I was young, I always wanted to be secret agent. Unfortunately, my surname is not Bond, so I gave up on it. Now you inform me that I can be a secretive agent, and make loads of easy money to boot. Thanks for the tip Jarrod. Have a good one tonight. Be loud; and be proud.

Way to show the paper. You keep showing them, by using their website. Confused?

Couple of things
Wazza, this is not a newspaper sponsored event,
it is simply a get together arranged by Jarrod.
Realist, your own Nathan can if he wishes post a blog, he clearly chooses not to,
Jarrod on the other hand needs to feed his addiction.

Don’t worry I was criticising anyone, simply was wondering why he hadn’t in a while. Didn’t think it was a conspiracy or anything.

Realist – I remembered this from one of Nathan’s blogs.
“I’ve enjoyed writing nearly 70 blogs this season and I hope some of you have enjoyed reading them and I thank you for all your comments. It’s not been a vintage season and I would love to be writing about title celebrations or at least our chances in the play-offs but alas it’s not to be.
I’ll be back next season to share my thoughts about the goings on at my beloved club.
Congratulations once again to Albion for deservedly winning the Championship.
It’s been a pleasure and an honour to be the Wolves blogger this season. I hope you and your families have a cracking summer and I’ll see you next season with renewed hope and optimism.”
Looks like he’s taking his Agent’s exam from a hot climate no doubt!

Conspiracy theory….LOL
I`ll give you a conspiracy theory, relative to the theme of this blog.
Nathan has secured himself an agent, and they are currently in negotiations with the E & S.
They believe 3 Freddy blogs is worth £50
2 Freddy blogs is worth £100
1 Freddy blog £500
and no more Freddy blogs, ever again £10,000
The E & S are baulking at such exorbitant fees,
and believe that agents will be the ruination of blogging, and are steadfast in their no fee policy.
Jarrod fired his agent because he only secured
two pints of Carling as his fee, the E & S quite rightly pointed out that if Jarrod drank
free Carling all night, that would amount to considerably more than Nathan was demanding.
Consequently, Jarrod said, sod it i`ll do it cos i love it.
Nathan being more materialistic will not budge,
and the bitter confrontation with the E & S continues.

Actually i keep doing the blogs to feed Happy Baggies addiction, his counsellor has told me if he goes cold turkey something awful might happen, he may……. support Wolves!!!!
Seriously where is he??
I reckon because he is being let out tonight he is in some beauty clinic having a full body wrap, facial, nails, and hair cut.
He just need sto face facts we cant all look as good as gorgeous Terry!!
Greg Cooper, you watch big brother, speaks volumes mate and confirms my thoughts.
Wazza: did you miss the 24 page pull out yesterday?? Having met recently with the top guy at the E+S he is focused on fair representation of all local clubs, and no he does not support any of them as he is from outside the area. Plus, there seems to be as many Albion fans working at the E+S as Wolves fans.
Realistwolves, i do not know why Nathan is not blogging at the moment, but i do know he is due to blog again next season, i have carried on blogging to feed mine and many others habits, yes i know i am a loser before you post it.

hi Bomber – good blog again.
I dislike agents but i do think they are neccessary – otherwise players like Wayne Rooney would be negotiating their own deals – and he would have signed for a box of bananas and a rope with a tyre on….
But their needs to be more control – either a player has to serve a % of his contract at a club, or a wage cap…. something to stop the continuing merry-go round.
Anyway – I’m back from the beauty parlour ready for tonight. I asked the barber for a “Jarrod” and he said its a pair of scissors not a wand !!!
See you all later with your party frocks on !!
