Elokobi calls for noisy Molineux
Thursday 5th June 2008, 11:19AM BST.
Wolves defender George Elokobi is hoping his team-mates will be greeted by a fresh wave of enthusiasm from the Molineux faithful next season.
The young left-back, whose performances were winning rave reviews by the end of the last campaign, can vouch for the impact of the fans support in this his first experience of a high-profile club.
After a campaign in which jeers accompanied cheers as Wolves promotion challenge faltered, Elokobi believes a “fresh start” will suit all.
He said: “It is going to be tough next season and we are going to need the fans more than ever before. We need them to be the 12th man for us, especially at home, where there are going to be crucial games that we need to win.
“Hopefully the fans can put last season to rest now and get behind us with a fresh start for everyone for the new campaign. We need to start with a positive mentality and see where it takes us.
“When Molineux is full the atmosphere is ecstatic and it gives you a great feeling. The supporters are different class in those situations and that’s what we want for next season.”
Although manager Mick McCarthy and some of his players felt the sting of Molineux’s displeasure at times last season, the young Cameroon defender has nothing but gratitude for his treatment.
He said: “I can only thank them for how brilliant they have been to me. Hearing them chanting for me is great and long may it continue. Hopefully I can continue to perform for them like I have been, particularly over the final games of the season, when I really felt I was coming into my stride.”
