Wolves regroup for Swindon

Monday 2nd June 2008, 8:30AM BST.

Wolves Speedway regroup tonight as they take on Elite League high-flyers Swindon at Monmore Green after a week of call-offs and international call-ups.

The side suffered frustration last week as their visit to Belle Vue on the Wednesday was rained off, while their trip to Coventry on Friday ended after six heats because of a power failure.

Yet it was a busy weekend for Wolves on the international front, with qualifiers for both the 2009 Grand Prix series and World Under-21 championships taking place, but the Wolves team members involved had mixed fortunes.

Nicolai Klindt reached the next round of the World Under-21s after scoring ten points in Finland on Saturday, to finish sixth overall in a meeting won by Sweden’s Linus Eklof, with Ludvig Lindgren – brother of Wolves captain Freddie – runner-up.

Kenneth Hansen crashed early on, and despite trying one more ride had to withdraw from the meeting. The club replace him for tonight’s clash with number eight Chris Neath.

There was a better showing from Christian Hefenbrock, who made it through to the semi-finals of the 2009 Grand Prix qualifying rounds, scoring ten points in his quarter-final at Gorican in Croatia.

The German star placed fifth overall in a meeting won by Belle Vue’s Charlie Gjedde. The Monmore men’s narrow victory over Belle Vue last Monday was certainly a fillip to them, as they look to climb the Elite League table, but the Robins are set to provide stiff opposition.

Club legend Leigh Adams again heads the men from Wiltshire into battle, while Travis McGowan, Mads Korneliussen and Troy Batchelor have all shown flashes of
brilliance in 2008. For the home side, Edward Kennett will again guest for the injured Niels Kristian Iversen.

Tapes go up at Monmore Green at 7.30pm.

Wolves: Freddie Lindgren, Ales Dryml, Edward Kennett, Nicolai Klindt, David Howe, Christian Hefenbrock, Chris Neath.
Swindon: Leigh Adams, Sebastian Alden, Mads Korneliussen, Travis McGowan, Troy Batchelor, Theo Pijper, James Wright.
