Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Murray may go on loan to get fit
Saturday 31st May 2008, 12:45PM BST.
Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray admits he may have to consider a loan spell to get fit again.
Murray also admits playing after his latest injury will be the “biggest test of character” he has endured after missing a year with damaged cruciate ligaments in his left knee.
In the 27-year-old’s absence, Wayne Hennessey has blossomed into one of the finest goalkeeping prospects in the game, with Arsenal reportedly set to make an £8m bid for him, while Villa have had a tentative approach rejected.
Murray is concentrating simply on getting himself back into a position to challenge for the Molineux No 1 jersey again. But he says he may have to go elsewhere to get match practice.

Murray is concentrating simply on getting himself back into a position to challenge for the Molineux No 1 jersey again. But he says he may have to go elsewhere to get match practice.
“The loan might be something that could happen,” said Murray. “I don’t know, because who knows what will happen with Wayne?
“I’m prepared to do whatever it takes as long as it’s right for both parties to get Matt Murray back up as quickly as possible.
“I want to play, and if Wolves want to get me off the wage bill for a bit, fine.
“Something might happen and all of a sudden you’re back in. I’m just going to have to bide my time.
“I’ve never thought about leaving Wolves, but you have to be realistic. The first thing is to get fit.”
Murray, who suffered a serious knee injury on a previous loan spell at Kingstonian, is determined to give Hennessey a run for his money when the players return from their break.
“I’m going to challenge him 100 per cent, work hard and doing everything I can.
“I can’t affect what Wayne is doing but I’ll keep training and encourage him as best I can, like he will me.
“We understand there’s only one position there and it’s the biggest test of my character not only getting back from my injury, but getting back in the team.”

Murry on loan good idea. We need to know if he wiil stand up to regular matches. Hennessey even £8 sounds cheap when you look at some of the players being touted at crazy prices. Til Murray is proved to be able no way should Wayne be sold.

A sensible suggestion. If he was fit I still think he is a better keeper than Wayne. I am not knocking Wayne I just think we are lucky to have 2 of the best keepers in the country.

nnnnnnoooooooooooooooo dnt we need u matt get bk to fitness here
Report abuse
if thats what it takes matt do it because its going to take some doing to dislodge hennessey the form he,s been in for club and country but its nice to see you on your way back hopefully injury free from now on good luck
Report abuse
Send him to the Cobblers for 3 months !
im sure the albion would snap him up on loan! He could go in as a double agent!

8m
and to arsenal
no chance

a loan would probably the best thing all round, at 27 he’s still relativeley young for a keeper, he could easily have another 10+ years in him, and as we all know when fit he’s one of the best keepers in the country. we cannot keep a player of either matt or wayne’s calibre on the bench for a season, so if we can get him fit and keep him fit we’ll probably sell Wayne eventually and make a tidy sum in the process.
Good idea send him out on loan to get match fit. Sell Hennessey to one of the big guns (Arsenal)and borrow him back for the year. A year on we will have Murray fit again and Hennessey will be in Arsenal’s 1st team + we will have £8 million to purchase 2 NEW QUALITY CENTRAL DEFENDERS,then maybe next year we could actually concentrate on staying in the top flight and not looking forward to the usual disappointment of 7th again in the Championship.

Maybe a season in Australia wouldn’t be a bad idea.Who know’s, he may unearth a player in the calibre of Kewell,Muscatt,Viduka or Craig Johnson!
No more Steve Corica’s though.

A spell at Edgar Street Matt !! That way I can get to watch your progress too !! All the best !!

Let wayne go especially for 8 mil get kasper schmeichel in for 1mil and him and murray challeging for no.1. use rest of money to buy a central defender and midfielder. next week exp-ect lafferty, berra and gerrard.

JUST GET RID, TO INJURY PRONE BY FAR..HENNESSEY AND IKEME ARE GOOD ENOUGH..CASH MURRAY IN AND BUY SOME QUALITY CENTRAL DEFENDERS.
YOU’D HAVE TO BE A THICK BARNSLEY MUPPET NOT TO SEE THAT MAKES GOOD SENSE.
GOOD JOB WE GOT MICK TO SORT IT OUT EH..LMAO

good idea….noway should Wayne be sold …..

stockport for a few months anyone?? they just got promoted and will need some safe hands in goal!!
or send him to MLS, there season is still underway mind you they play a lot of matches on artificial surfaces perhaps not best if you have a dodgy back, dodgy legs, dodgy shoulder etc etc
Report abuse
Loan him to Sandwell as they will need at least a couple of keepers in between the goal posts in the Prem to keep out all those goals..lol
Report abuse
As long as its not to any of our opponents.
See ya soon Matt good luck on the recovery

Get down the F&C Bar and fatten up those spinney legs mate–Please get fit for us at the Wolves–If Arsenal offer that sort of money for Wayne then its commons sense that our Management will let him go–But please use that money to get some experience to get us up–Lets not mess about with that sort of money you can do alot even though Wayne is a stopper we can surley find someone to replace him–Or am i being to suggestive.

Rumours aside, even though its still early days in the pre season I would want to see Morgan lift the wages ceiling to bring in the right players. I have my doubts we will go anywhere under MM next season anyway but we have to ask where has the money pledged when Morgan bought the club from SJH gone? Then Wayne to Arsenal for 8m and we will probably buy a couple of players for 2m. You do the maths…
Report abuse
Sell Murray. I’ve said since day one – he will always be injury prone!!
According to a Brighton & Hove Albion message board, Wolves have signed Tommy Elphick, thier player of the season centre back for £1.5million. They all seem to accept it as true because someone close to the club has said it apparently. According to reports it’s a done deal with only T’s being crossed and I’s being dotted. Sounds like a really good player from what brighton fans have said!
No thanks, Keily is better than sicknote Murry, he is shot to peices and will never play a whole season again! As for Wayne, 8 million? what a joke, i’d snap hands off for this if I were you….he’s not proven and drops big clangers. He would only sit on a bench in the prem. You need to keep him or with Sicknote being sick again next season you will be relegated. If you sell him for 8 million you will not spend it on players anyway!
Sell Hennessey for 6 or 7 million and use that money to buy some quality defenders. Murray is just as good as hennessey when hes fit
Report abuse
That’s a good attitude to have in fairness. He’s aware that he’s not number one, which must be hard to take given his ability, but he’s willing to work for his shirt. Always nice to hear!
get him fit and then we can sell wayne.nothing against wayne but mat is better.if he comes back strong he is englands best keeper by a mile.

fact he is a better shot stopper than wayne
fact he is always injured

just read the reveiw of Wales V Holland. Damn! sums it up from a Hennessey point of view. Seems like he had a great game by all accounts. From a selfish perspective, I wish he had let in a dozen to keep those Prem sharks away.

I’ve been out all weekend spreading dung. Thought i’d finished with it then I came in and saw your post’s. Why do you have to talk such CRAP mate?
Now I’m not a baggie basher but from the little I watch the premiership you are really going to struggle next season with the team as it is.
However my interests lay with the team I support and have since 1949, old git ain’t I, as I said in post one keep ‘em both, makes sense competition makes for quality. £8 mill. not enough! Murray needs to prove his fitness a loan will do that.
Don’t like the skuttlebut about Kitely and Blackburn, boy do we need to keep him.

TerryUglyboyboggie, a mention of you and “talking sense” being in the same sentence would be an oxymoron. (You can look it up in a big book called a dictionary. There are no pictures, but you should manage to find the word.) Of course a mention of you in a sentence without “talking sense” would be just a moron.
By the way, Hennessey or Kiely? No brainer. See who in the Prem wants Hennessey, and who is after Kiely. (Actually I would rather have Kylie in goal than Kiely.) Unlike you, we have at least three quality keepers. It will be a joy watching your defence leaking goals quicker than a colander in a bathtub. It should be sweet to watch. Even sweeter will be at the end of the coming season when we replace your heap in the Prem.
HB, wasn’t it Moore who couldn’t even make a go of it on loan at Walsall. Ooh, I wish we had got him instead of an 18 year old who is already a Welsh International, and played well against a good Dutch side at the weekend. (NOT!!) Wasn’t Kim the heroine in Miss Saigon? She should be a good player for you.
Baggies77, nice of you to include your IQ after your team name. 77!! You must be a bright young man. Why would Hennessey want one season in the Prem when he can wait a year and then go up permanently with the Wolves.

(The absolute proof that you have stretched your vocabulary so much in any posting is that you have to write that innane Bo(r)ing Bo(ring at the end of each comment. Surely, even you realise that makes you appear a true “thicko.”

Wiseguy, you still did a repeat the following season, and came down though.
To be serious, I would like you to stay up, and have the Black Country Derby in the Prem next season. You will need a goalie and three or four defenders (allowing for injuries and suspensions) in order to do so. You may have just about enough in midfield and up front.
