A motorist who twice drove over a traffic warden’s foot after being given a parking ticket in a Black Country High Street has been landed with a £385 bill – including £100 compensation to his victim.

Stuart Bishop was discovered parking in a disabled bay while visiting the dentist on December 14 last year.

The 31-year-old, a £48,000-a-year site manager, returned to his car, a Seat Leon, in West Bromwich High Street to discover he was being fined, West Bromwich Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

A motorist who twice drove over a traffic warden’s foot after being given a parking ticket in a Black Country High Street has been landed with a £385 bill – including £100 compensation to his victim.

Stuart Bishop was discovered parking in a disabled bay while visiting the dentist on December 14 last year.

The 31-year-old, a £48,000-a-year site manager, returned to his car, a Seat Leon, in West Bromwich High Street to discover he was being fined, West Bromwich Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

Mr John Baker, prosecuting, said:”The warden was patrolling the High Street and saw that the defendant was parked in a disabled spot.

“He looks around to see the driver but cannot see him. Later the defendant appears and asks him if he is going to give him a ticket. He says ‘yes’.

“The defendant then jumps into his car and having pulled forward he drives over the warden’s left foot. Then the car is reversed back to get out and when he drives forward the car nudges him out of the way and drives over his left foot again.”

Mr Baker said Bishop, of Haymaker Way in Wimblebury, Cannock, had shown remorse and that the Crown Prosecution Service was sure it was not intentional.

The warden was suffering from a sore foot but there were no permanent injuries, he said.

Mr Jim Cooper, defending, said Bishop had been “horrified” at suggestions that he had caused injury to the warden intentionally.

“He has always been horrified by suggestions that he deliberately drove over the warden’s foot,” he added.

Bishop pleaded guilty to one charge of driving without due care and attention. He was also ordered to pay court costs of £120, a £150 fine and a £15 victim surcharge. Three points were added to his driving licence.
