28 homes could go but streets might stay

Thursday 29th May 2008, 11:51AM BST.

Nearly 30 homes on a Bilston estate may be facing the bulldozer – although plans to wipe out three entire streets have been scrapped amid protests.

Four families may face being moved out of their homes on the Lunt estate under new plans expected to come before planners within days.

Under Wolverhampton City Council’s original regeneration hopes, more than 100 homes faced being demolished and replaced with a new development.

People in Boswell Road, Addison Place and Chantrey Crescent have waited more than two years to find if homes would be demolished.

It now appears that 28 homes may come down and affected residents be rehoused.

It is also believed that they will get a payout of more than £4,000 for having to move out of their homes.

Ann Nightingale, who spearheaded the campaign against original plans, said that she was “over the moon” as a lot of people had lived there all their lives and didn’t want to go.

Councillor Malcolm Gwinnett, that chairman of Wolverhampton City Council’s planning committee, could not confirm details for the new plans.

He said that an application for the estate was expected “soon”.
