Olofinjana wants to stay put at Wolves

Wednesday 28th May 2008, 11:52AM BST.

seyi.jpgSeyi Olofinjana insists he wants to stay at Wolves – but admits things haven’t gone ‘as planned.’

The Nigerian international has been linked with Albion and Sunderland in recent days, both of which are untrue. But the 27-year-old midfielder wants to stay at Wolves to win promotion.

“I’ve got a contract to 2011. Because we haven’t made it in 2008, I’ll try to do it in 2008-09, 2009-10 and the season after,” said Olofinjana.

“I’ve not spoken to Wolves but the chances of me remaining here are very good. I’m very much looking forward to the season with Wolves.

“If something comes up, I will check it out to see if it’s the best thing for me to do, but I’m in no rush. If offers come in, a lot of things would have to happen for me to leave – even if it was a Premier League club.

“But if it was down to money, I would have left Wolves long ago. Respect is vital for me and I feel I have become so familiar with the fans and the whole bandwagon, so it would take something special to take me away.

“It was a really frustrating season for me and my performances weren’t always the best. I think I was below par and a little disappointing. People are very fickle but they expect so much of us as a team and that can weigh very heavily.

“For myself, I don’t think it’s been all bad, but it’s not been great and not what I planned.”

Olofinjana added: “I have never had any doubt about the desire of the club to play in the Premier League. Wolverhampton Wanderers belong in the Premier League – they are only marking time in the Championship.

“Everyone wants it so much to happen. But I’ve still got that desire to do well and as long as I’m still a Wolves player, I will continue to do my best.”

“But if it was down to money, I would have left Wolves long ago.”

I wonder where his priorities lie? At the end of the day, all this ‘I dont undertand my loss of form’ is rubbish. The reason is that he is lazy, and when Edwards was played and put Georges place under threat, miraculously, the boy hit form.
Some of you really rate him, and on his day I cannot argue, but thats 4-5 games in a season where I feel like he is giving 100%.

In my opinion, this article does not really suggest he is totally commited. I would probably sell!

Take a long hard look at yourself George – your lack of quality last season epitomised the unacceptable standard we witnessed on a regular basis. Get a good pre-season under your belt, come back in August firing on all cylinders as we know you can do, and take hold of the midfield position like your life depended on it. Only a vast increase in endeavour, application and quality will dictate whether or not you remain at the club.

the problem with george is he is fantastic when he is playing on his instincts but if given time he takes too many touches

he cant tackle and doesnt jump for the ball

bearing in mind henry is our sitting player george should be charging forward at every oppourtunity but he doesnt do that either

    £3m???? take the money Jez!

The headline is misleading too – he doesnt say he wants to stay at wolves just that he will do as long as no better all round offer comes in which i dont blame him for one bit but lets have things accurate!!

On his day he can be quality but we cannot afford to play him and Henry together anymore.
Hopefully we will have Davies and Gleeson back, Edwards fit and will be signing one or two. Then there will be fierce competition for a shirt in a very important area for us!

George im afraid im not not bothered if you go. You are very one dimensional, and dont score enough goals, lets face it wolves fans this guy isnt good enough and he dosent fit in with the balance of our side. With Henry sitting in the Makalale role which he does well, we need a goalscoring action time midfielder, maybe Dave Edwards is the man, maybe henry should go it only my opinion. Would love to see some real intent from Wolves and go get harper from reading.

3million for some onewho cant head, cant tackle and cant shoot is good mooney

Think people need to read the story. He admits he played poor last season. He was great the season before. We all see little bits of what he can do.

The best thing about this article it shows he wants to play for Wolves, thats what we want. He want to be successful with Wolves. Thats what we all want, got a better chance with players that want the same than players that dont care!

Without being too critical of Oli I say this –
Ince, Rae, Bailey and Highes would all cringe at the lack of fight and spirit at the centre of our midfield. Oli – you are 6ft4″ 12 stone and cannot win the ball in the air or a decent 50/50 tackle!
WE need another of the afore mentioned type players and a Skipper that makes his presence on the field count even when he is playing badly. MM TAKE NOTE!!!

wembley66, good comment. Oli is the almost player he and a lot of people think he is. For a ‘powerhouse’ he is not so powerful.
He is a trier, he has good games but also little impact at times.
If the money was right (£3-4m?) then I would certainly consider it.
Nice bloke, trier, but needs some aggressive fire from somewhere. If he found that, no problem with him driving Wolves to a higher level.

If we had a couple of other good midfielders fighting for the shirt every game we would see just how good Oli can be but this season he spent too much time in the comfort zone knowing it was unlikely he would get dropped. I guarantee that you put him in serious competition for a place in the starting line up week in week out and he will be the best midfielder in the division next season

Oli’s best season for Wolves was IMO the 06/07 one,but thought he was poor last season, maybe its time he was given a fresh challenge somewhere else.I believe we missing two midfielders who can 1) win the ball and put his foot on it,and 2) who can find the net on a regular basis,i felt thats what we lacked last season.
