A talented young darts player from Walsall has won the backing of some of his professional idols after taking them on in aid of charity.

Two-year-old Alfie Galloway went up against former Australian number one Pat Orreal and the World ranked Wayne Jones in a fun encounter.

The darts-obsessed youngster was amongst a host of other people to play against the pair at the United Kingdom pub, Bloxwich Road North.

The chance to compete against the darts superstars was one of a feast of activities held throughout the day to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

There was also a charity football game between regulars at the Willenhall pub and parents of local junior league team Lane Head Football Club along with a bungee jump.

The activities were organised to raise around £1,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as Lane Head under 12s player, Connor Jones, suffers from the condition.

The game took place at the Goals Centre in Darlaston seeing the pub team win 4-3 before people headed back to the pub for the darts and jump.

Alfie’s mother Kerry Staunton was among the organisers, which saw a raffle to take on the darts superstars. She said the young prodigy from Bentley had really enjoyed the chance to meet the professionals.

She said:”He knew who they were and loved the chance to play against them. But he just loves playing darts and is constantly at the board.”

His fascination with the sport received the top players backing. Wayne, of Wednesfield, and currently ranked 32 in the PDC standings said:”It is too early to say how far he can go as he is only throwing from a short distance at the moment but he has got a good action.

“It seems he loves to play darts and if he is still playing by the age of 12 or 13 for around four or five hours a day then he has a good chance of becoming professional. It is all down to commitment.”
