Road closed after bridge fall
Thursday 22nd May 2008, 4:18PM BST.
Passers-by have described the terrible moment a man fell from a bridge on to Ring Road St David’s, hitting two cars.
This was the scene this afternoon after police closed an anti-clockwise stretch of the busy carriageway for 20 minutes following the drama just before midday. Officers are investigating reports the victim jumped from Railway Bridge near the bus and train stations.
Darren Guy a 37-year-old father-of-two from Bradley, said: “The man was acting suspiciously walking up and down the pavement by the railings and hesitating.
“Then he suddenly went over. It was as if he dived – one moment he was there and the next he was gone straight into the path of oncoming traffic. He hit the back of a Volvo and was then struck by a BMW. Both cars stopped as quickly as they could but there was nothing the drivers could do to avoid him. It was a terrible sight.”
Joanna Kozdoj, aged 25, from Bushbury, added: “The man ended up lying on the ground about five or six feet behind the BMW.”
The victim’s condition was not immediately known.
