Fire rips through vehicle firm base
Monday 19th May 2008, 3:24PM BST.
Fire ripped through a business in Sandwell in what firefighters believe is the latest in a series of arson attacks in the area.
Crews were called to the warehouse of a vehicle repair business in Great Bridge at 5.50am yesterday where they found a storage unit, workshop, portable cabin and vehicles engulfed in flames.
Two crews were sent to the scene, from Tipton and West Bromwich, and immediately radioed for help from firefighters in Oldbury and Wednesbury.
Police were informed as the crews believed the blaze at R&P Repairs Ltd in Tinsley Street was started deliberately.
Owner of R&P Repairs Ltd, Roy Strathan was working with staff to clean up the site after crews left at around 10am.
He was alerted to the blazed by his alarm company when the telephone lines went down.
He said: “It was awful coming down the road, seeing the smoke and knowing it was your business on fire.
“Two of the units were burned along with a portable cabin. Fortunately only one of the vehicles was badly affected. We will be open as usual.”
Police said it is too early to determine the cause of the blaze.
