freddy.jpgBlack Country strikers Kevin Phillips and Freddy Eastwood are on the target-list of the Championship’s new money-bags club QPR.

Albion promotion hero Phillips has been offered to the fast-changing Loftus Road club if they will meet his agent’s demands for a two-year £20,000 a week deal.

At the same time, new QPR head coach Ian Dowie is considering a move for Eastwood, the £1.5m Wolves striker transfer-listed after his season of frustration at Molineux.

Dowie and his former No 2 at Coventry, Tim Flowers, have been recruited by the three-pronged billionaire ownership group of Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore and Lakshmi Mittal who intend investing major funds to make Rangers one of the Championship’s leading promotion forces next season.

They have already begun scouting for new players and Phillips and Eastwood are obvious and early contenders for recruitment.

Phillips’ future at Albion is in doubt because chairman Jeremy Peace wants to restrict his offer to a one-year deal.

Phillips, 35 next month, wants a two-year agreement and feels his award-winning 24 goals from 30 starts during the promotion campaign has proved his fitness.

Eastwood is a target for Coventry who have held preliminary talks with his agent, but the prospect of a rival move from QPR is good news for Wolves in their efforts to recoup all of the £1.5m invested in him a year ago.

One tranfer which won’t be happening despite reports claiming otherwise is Zoltan Gera to Everton.

Gera can have a free transfer this summer having run down his Albion contract. Although there is a new deal on the table for him from the Baggies, the Hungarian international is being wooed by other top-flight outfits.

Everton were one of his admirers – but manager David Moyes has confirmed to sources at Goodison that he feels a major financial investment in Gera at the age of 29 does not represent good value for money.

QPR have got real ambition, take note Moxey! They are signing players to get out of the championship and will re-strenghten when they go up next season. Not trying to do things on the cheap like Wolves do. Ramage would have been an excellent signing and Eastwood will have the last laugh. Its so gut-wrenching when you can see how things are going to pan out.

On a number of occasions when Freddy cam,e on he showed and excellent ability to split defences with a good pass. The goal against Plymouth is a case in point – the pass was brilliant.
Phillips is a very intelligent player who equally is capable of being creative in the box and is a deadly finisher.

I can easily see them form a very effective partnership in the championship. Wolves must not sell him to QPR. They must sell him to Walsall or hednesford or some foreign side.

Lets not help other teams dump on us next year please.

Think MM is making one hell of a mistake unless there is a good reasen behind selling/not playing him. I say lets get as much dosh for Eastwood as we can and then scarper. Trying things on the cheap ?? A bit early to make that judgement. We’ve wasted millions on poor players in the past who haven’t achieved what the current crop have. Let QPR “show ambition” like Wolves did under SJH and throw their cash around. One of the good but frustrating things about Wolves is that they want to remain comparitively debt free. Much as I want to see Wolves in the Prem it has to be done in a fiscally sensible way. This means bringing on younsters, buying sensible and occasionally cashing in on an asset you would rather keep. This is made harder because a lot of clubs mortgage their future for success today or have an owner who can commit lots of money. If it is his money like Abramovitch that’s great for Chelsea(until he gets bored), but The Glassers do it on borrowed money !!!!! Wolves have almost gone under before so I believe steady realistic progress is the best we can hope for, frustrating though it is.
