Wolves will embark on a three-match pre-match tour of Scotland before hosting Premier League side Blackburn in the climax to their Championship preparations.

Boss Mick McCarthy has arranged games against Alex Rae’s Dundee, Mark McGhee’s Motherwell and Kilmarnock from July 20-26.

Wolves kick off their pre-season at Brian Little’s relegated Wrexham on July 12 and visit Graham Turner’s promoted Hereford four days later prior to the Scottish trip, before returning to face Walsall and Blackburn, who come to Molineux on August 2.

Motherwell are currently third in the SPL behind Celtic and Rangers with two games left, while Kilmarnock are second bottom with one match remaining. Rae’s Dundee finished second in the First Division.

McCarthy feels the Scottish games will provide the ideal preparation for the rigours of the Championship.

“The trip to Scotland will provide us with competitive games,” he said. “It’s friendlies in inverted commas up in Scotland. 

“It means we don’t have to travel too far and we have excellent training facilities arranged.

“We know what we’re going to get from games like these. They will all want to beat us and the style of play will be similar to what we will face week-in-week-out in the Championship.”

Blackburn, Wolves first Premier League opponents, last visited Molineux on January 7, 2004 in a 2-2 draw.

“I’m delighted Mark has agreed to bring Blackburn to Molineux,” added McCarthy. “They finished seventh in the Premier League and be excellent opposition to wrap our pre-season programme up.”

Wolves report back for the start of pre-season training on June 30 in the countdown to the start of the campaign on August 9.

The Scottish trip will be the first time Wolves have ventured north of the border in pre-season since Graham Taylor’s only full campaign in 1994. Wolves beat Dundee 4-1.

Additional non first team matches may be added during the summer.
