Kightly to work through the summer

Michael Kightly has revealed he is so determined to be in top condition for next season he will remain at Wolves for a summer rehabilitation programme.
Kightly pulled out of the England under-21s friendly against Wales last night with a knock to the same joint he had surgery on at the end of February.
But the new injury – caused when he went over on the joint two days before the Plymouth game – is nothing to do with the surgery he had on a bone spur on February 29.
“I was back at Wolves last night to see the physio and the club doctor and they are fairly happy,” said the winger.
“They told me to let the ankle settle down over the next three days and then start strengthening work next week and after that, it should be fine and I’m fairly confident it will be.
“But I will be back in because after being out for four and a half months, my left ankle isn’t as strong as my right one and I need to improve the strength in the left one.
“To be honest, that’s what caused me to go over on it before the Plymouth game – because it’s not as strong as the other one yet.
“Within a week to two weeks, I hope to get it back to normal.”
Kightly admits the decision not to play for his country and win a fourth England under-21 cap is unfortunate, but knows it was the correct one.
“I was disappointed because it was a chance to play for my country, but I just felt it was the right decision to pull out,” he said.
“I didn’t want to play 70 per cent fit and not do myself justice. I spoke to Stuart Pearce and the medical staff and we thought this was the best thing to do.
“If I could have had a complete week’s rest, it would have been absolutely fine. But it wasn’t to be.”

Kights is a star and it looks like he’s a stayer. Fair play to him.
On a different note could all wolves fans get behind Hull for the playoffs because:
A) They deserve it more
B) They have (almost) the same colour kit as Wolves
C) As an adopted Bristolian (born in Dudley) I cant bear seeing the Scum get into the premier league. The Gas are my second team.

I look around the papers and the internet at all the transfer rumours, speculation and probable moves and see lots of clubs saying this or that star is about to sign. Knowing it is best to keep ones cards close to ones chest – I really hope our lot at the golden palace are busy and not waiting until players have come back off holiday in a months time. The time to strike is now!

Come on chaps, lighten up a bit here. Kightly is injured and that reduces his transfer value. The fact that he is prepared to work over the close season to recover is such good news.
It means that Kightly still has a transfer value, although his insurance premiums are probably higher than average as he seems to have been crocked a few times.
Let’s cheer him on in his efforts, because as an under 21 international he should be worth a few millions, even with an injury reputation.
It will be interesting to see who McCarthy brings in to cover the wingers next season. It seemed strange last season to play for months without wingers as there was no cover for either of the two injured ones.
The strikers seconded into being wingers were not very successful, as the boos I heard from the southern perimeter of the stadium seemed to attest.

I dream of two things. One is winning the Euro Lottery this Friday so I can buy WBA and put them into liquidation and the second is a season where we are promoted and they are relegated. Not holding my breath on the lottery but the second is mouth watering.

Kightly is a great player, perhaps you guys should give McCarthy some credit for discovering the lad instead of slagging him and the Albion off.
Unfortunately, you know as well as I do, if a big club comes knocking, he’ll go. I’m not just saying that because I’m a baggies fan.
But don’t be to down-hearted if he does, the worst thing Wolves could do is hold on to a player that doesn’t want to be there. We let Koumas and Kamara go because they wanted out.
With Koumas, though there was no doubting his talent, was stinking the place out and had an apalling attitude. Never harmed us in the long run. Get yourselves in the prem and we’ll play the black country derbys where they should be played – IN THE PREM.

The Mail on Sunday said it – as below from March 3rd 2007.
“At £25,000, bought blind by boss Mick McCarthy, this livewire trickster can score – six goals in 14 games – go by defenders down either flank and generally cause panic in Championship defences, three divisions up from where he had been dumped after failing to make the grade at Spurs and Southend.”
Sky Sports said it on March 27th 2008, quoting our current manager:
But it was McCarthy’s assistant Ian Evans who advised him to give the youngster his chance in the Championship.
McCarthy said, “I had never seen him play before, but ‘Taff’ had and that was good enough for me, although I did my homework on him and got to know a lot about him.”
The same story, quoting McCarthy, was in the Express and Star, Birmingham Mail and on the Wolves website. I could go on but I think you’re safely back in your box now

Steve Howard was Derby’s leading scorer when they were promoted, via the play-offs. His only claim to fame at Leicester is that he scored a three against Sandwell Town at the Poorthorns!
