Awards double for Baggies

Albion are still in the awards business – more than a week after the Baggies closed their title-winning campaign.
Tony Mowbray was last night named Championship Manager of the Season at the annual League Managers’ Association Awards.
And striker Kevin Phillips’ goal-studded season earned him the club’s official Player-of-the-Year award, the accolade given out based on the votes of “SuperKev’s” own team-mates.
The ex-England striker was voted top performer by Albion’s management staff and his colleagues, with ever-popular left-back Paul Robinson and midfield goal machine Robert Koren runners-up.
Phillips’ stunning return of 24 goals from just 30 starts this term, plus his impressive all-round displays, clinched an award that he will add to a string of honours this season.
He finished as the Championship’s second top scorer, despite missing six weeks of the campaign with a career-threatening knee injury, won the FourFourTwo Championship Player-of-the-Year prize, was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year and finished as the No.1 striker in the Actim stats index.
Boss Tony Mowbray said: “It means a lot to any player when their team-mates respect the contribution they’ve made.
“I’d say it’s not just Kevin’s performances during games that have won him this award, but also his personality.
“Hopefully, he’ll be high in the running for the award next season.”
That, of course, will depend largely on Phillips and Albion settling on a new contract which has yet to be agreed.
Defensive midfielder Joss Labadie has won the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

For KP to be voted Actim No 1 striker and 2nd best player overall – having missed 6 weeks of the season is amazing.
Really pleased to see TM get the recognition he deserves (pity it took this paper nearly 18 hours to print anthing).
Never mind winning the league – his dedication to playing football right way, for the rebuilding job he did, and for his overall demeanour, he deserves every minute of this !!!!
I hear MM didn’t win manager of the year at Wolves this year !!!!

i thought the players were on “holiday” they have time to get into the strip and have photos taken, so if they have time for that shudnt they have time for a parade and give something back to the fans ?? – yes well done lads to all awards but im still gutted by that !!

He did really well to finish second highest scorer in the Championship. I wonder who finished above him, he must be really good?

Hello malvern – yes SEB did very well… however I’m sure our Kev may have scored 1 or 2 more without the 6 week lay off.
Still, we will settle for what we have – this is hardly a season for “if onlys” on our side.

Malvern Wolf…read the print, he missed 6 weeks with a serious injury which could have ended his career and then scored 24 goals in 30 starts, Ok your striker finished top with most goals, but in how many games did that come from. Also remember both Plymouth and Wolves in SB had one main reliable goal scorer, whereas we had several. If he is so much better than KP how come he wasn’t voted best player in the Championship.

Malvern Wolf..just a thought if your striker is so good how come he didn’t get at least one goal in your last game, never mind the two whuch would have put you in the pay-offs. All those goals and nothing to show for them.

Perhaps top scorer should be decided in the same way as Soccer AM’s golden shoe award. Goals per minutes on the pitch. Nah, have to leave one crumb of comfort for Wolves and Plymouth.

Sir Tony Mowbray well deserved award.
Can’t wait to see how he copes in the new season ? I want to see him try some new things out to deal with each team. Win, or loose I will support him. He should be in the job for years if MM can stay at the Wolves after the season they have had !
