Rider in fight for life after wall falls
Thursday 8th May 2008, 2:33PM BST.
A motorcyclist was fighting for his life today after a wall toppled over on him following a crash in a Walsall street.
The man, aged in his twenties and believed to be from the Walsall area, was discovered lying on the ground in Harrison Street, Bloxwich, just after 10.30am.
An air ambulance was called to the scene, landing in the car park of Widdys Supermarket, and joined police, paramedics and firefighters at the scene.
The victim was airlifted to hospital just after noon.
Firefighters had battled to remove heavy bricks from the damaged wall which had trapped both the injured man and his motorbike.
Sections of Harrison Street were immediately closed by police with traffic diverted away from the scene. Residents were also told to take alternative routes around the area.
Most of Harrison Street remained closed early this afternoon.
Police spokeswoman Hilary Hopkirk said: “A man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.”
