Priory’s trio of champions

Thursday 8th May 2008, 10:57AM BST.

Dudley teenager Ryan Aston is chasing a fifth national title by the age of 17 after helping Priory Park Boxing Club to a hat-trick of medals.

New Midlands junior champion Aston is one of three youngsters from the club to collect medals in the last week with 14-year-old Jackson Collins and 13-year-old Luke Parrock winning silver and bronze respectively at the Three Nations Championships.

And Aston is now on course for a fifth national ABA title, this time at 75kg, after previously winning schoolboy, golden gloves, junior and CYP national medals.

This week he added another Midlands Junior Championship medal to his collection in Coventry and he will box in the ABA national junior semi-finals later this month as he looks to extend his impressive run on the national stage.

Coach Paul Gough said: “Ryan has already won four titles at national level and he is now going for a fifth.

“We are hopeful he can get it and he has already done really well.”

Meanwhile, Collins and Parrock, who have both boxed for England in their age groups, are celebrating medals at the Three Nations tournament in Sheffield.

The trio are among four Priory Park youngsters to have boxed for England with 15-year-old Thomas Ghent, who was injured for this week’s events, also in the national squad.
