Freddy Eastwood was today officially slapped on the transfer list by Wolves.The 24-year-old striker, who arrived from Southend for £1.5m last summer, has been told by boss Mick McCarthy that he hasn’t done well enough and doesn’t fit into his team.
Championship rivals Coventry will make a fresh move for Eastwood in the coming weeks – but the fans’ favourite is definitely leaving Molineux.
“I have had discussions with him and he has been made available for transfer and he knows that,” said McCarthy.
“There are times when he has not done well enough.
“I have said to him maybe that’s me as well – Freddy is Freddy and he just does not fit into my team.
“It’s nothing personal, it’s just that he is not going to get into my side. He wants to play, so is available for transfer.”

McCarthy insisted he has no regrets about a player who has been arguably his most controversial signing.
The root of criticism from many Wolves fans has been McCarthy’s refusal to give Eastwood more match time – the former Southend hot-shot has made just ten League starts this season, with a further 21 appearances coming off the bench.
“I don’t do that regret nonsense,” said McCarthy. “I had watched him often enough, others had watched him and we thought he would be a great player in the side.
“We thought he would fit in, but it just hasn’t worked out. He might be the best he can at what he does. I don’t think he did that during the season and it’s just not for me.”
McCarthy has received assurances from star keeper Wayne Hennessey that he intends to stay at Molineux for at least another season.
“He came in to say thanks for putting faith in him, but I ended up thanking him for having such a great season,” added the boss.
“His view on it is that he needs to play. He wants to be in the first team and at the moment he is a first-choice keeper irrespective of who comes back for the start of next season. He knows he has to improve and he wants to develop here.”
McCarthy won’t release his retained list until later this week or early next week.

Your call Mick. Obviously a clash of personalities but I have a feeling that this will come back to bite us. Either way we need to replace Freddie and find a 20 goal a season man to partner SEB. Keogh is not good enough and is not the answer. We will not get promoted with a striker who bags 10 or so goals a season.

Sorry Jon, I have different perspective.
….and this is that not “A Freddy is God” post.
Eastwood is clearly a player that has the potential to do well. Sadly it will now be at another Club.
What really concerns me is the manager’s apparent lack of ability to get the best from maybe difficult, but clearly talented players. To me, it just provides more fuel for the MM haters who belive he is only comfortable working closely with players that are not challanging.
Sadly again that was all too apparent in the style of play seen in many, many games during the season, when lack of charecter and determination were so painfully missing.
Let us hope the Summer proves that he will sign fiesty players that get stuck in and show real leadership.

1) The point is he signed him and paid a lot of money.The next one will be Darren Ward. No one can tell me that he is worse than Neill Collins.
There are many signings within our squad that have the fans divided and Freddy is the main one. Others are Potter, D.Ward and Henry.
They must get a quality goalscorer lined up alongside a centre half very quickly.

There are times he didnt do well enough – which of the 10 mins at the end of a game was that mick?
Too many times we jump to change the manager and lets hope Mick gets it right next year but having watched nearly all our games this year i know Freddy has more ability than Keogh, Elliot, Ward, Kyle and Bothroyd – we have wasted an oppourtunity with this one

Mick is gona get it next year if we start poorly – a lot of fans won’t put up with any more duff signings in the Potter/Gibson/Ward(both)/Collins mode. Thank God! Finally we get this whole thing over with, it’s up to Moxey and Morgan now to get a decent transfer fee for him. 1.5M would be reasonable but we could probably squeeze some more money out of Coventry if we start a bidding war.
Freddie is obviously talented but just didn’t fit in with the rest of the team. This whole situation can be salvaged but only if we bring in some real quality to replace him.

I think this is an absolute disgrace, how Moxey and McCarthy can say he has been disappointing is beyond me.

Compare Eastwood’s and Keogh’s International goalscoring records ( difficult I know as Keogh can’t get into his International side often) !!
Compare Eastwood’s and Keogh’s goalscoring record this season (on a goals per minute played basis).
Now lets wait and compare Eastwood’s and Keogh’s goalscoring NEXT season (where ever Freddy may be)….!!
ps. I am not Keogh bashing, but putting a reasonable head to head comparison on which player would have given us a best chance of success…

Who decided to bring him to Molineux? And now says he wont fit into his team? Hmmm! Well didn’t he ought to have realised all this before spending 1.5m on him. A question of judgement I would say. I have to say none of this inspires one with confidence. There are a number of players that have been bought in that fit the ? mark and I would suggest should be going rapidly – I think most of us know who these prople are?
I am not confident that we wont have many a repitition here and be suffering the same again next season…
Sorry to be doom and gloom, but I can’t see the light at the moment with things the way they are…! We are headed for more uncertainty and expensive mistakes or not spending enough on proven quality which is what is required..

I thought S Morgan promised Premiership football by the end of next year – not a hope with MM and his backroom staff, so a year from now we will lose our talented youngsters as they get fed up with MM too.Wake up Morgan listen to the fans,or they will start to turn and all clubs need fans. The reason people are mad, are because we have struggled for goals all season yet Eastwood is the only one of the strikers who was never given the chance. Even Elliott was picked instead of him, and I think that’s what makes McCarthys management so insane.

This is sad day for Wolves. I have watched Eastwood for many years. He is a proven goal scorer, but you need to be on the pitch for more than 10 mins in a week to be able to do this. MM has lost the plot. We really have lost a talent today and I am sorry boys but I hope that he comes back next season and scores a hat full against us. It is a disgrace how he has been treated.
It looks like MM is staying then!! What about the dad’s army defence at the back, not to mention some of MM little so called gems. Makes you laugh they are the ones who do not fit! Any manager that needs to move 5 players around to complete 1 subsituition does not fit.

Two things spring to mind…why was he signed in the first place when he’s played exactly as he was expected to. It must have been pretty obvious back then whether he would ‘fit’ or not.
Secondly, when Coventry were desperate to have him, and we clearly didn’t want him…pulling out of the deal kept them in a relegation battle which was always going to be dependant on not losing to us. We forced them to do everything they could not to lose to us, which cost us promotion. …and NOW you want to send him there.

Looks good at times but too ineffective overall. 35 appearences (admittedly a lot from the bench) 4 goals just isn’t a good enough return. However the worst bit is the split it has provided amongst the supporters so good luck Freddy but I can’t say I’m sorry to see you go.

I’m disappointed about Freddie but believe there is more to this than meets the eye. As for Mick I am disappointed he is staying but who should replace him ? I’m not too sure. Anyway for next season I will continue to support my team and Mick in the belief he can get us promoted. If he fails he will be gone.

Firstly let me say that you do not have to hold a season ticket to be a Wolves fan. I personally did the majority of my time a Molyneux standing during the sixties and seventies, and it must be the best part of ten years since I last sat there to watch a football match, but I am still a fan, it is a life long commitment, you cannot get a divorce ( oh to stand there and say ” your honour when we first met I was young and Wolves were exiting; but now……….”). As a fan I/ we are all entitled to an opinion and the right to express it.
Secondly statistics do not actually lie ( though they can be manipulated ) and the stats are that for the past three seasons the champions have scored:-
For Against

While Wolves have scored:-

The year we last gained promotion the figures were

conclusion:-
We are at least 30 goals a season short of promotion.
This past season our leading goalscorers; in terms of goals per game have been:-
Denes Rosa ( all in reserves as he was never given a first team start ) who scored 13 goals in less than 26 games ( he missed some games and I am not sure how many ) but non the less has scored at a rate of better than: 1 in 2
SEB 12 in 20 or 1 in 2
Freddie 4 in 12 or 1 in 3
Keough 11 in 38 or 1 in 3.5
Elliot 5 in 19 or 1 in 4
Kites 5 in 21 or 1 in 4
So two of our three top scorers were just not given any starts, may explain the lack of goals, and begs the question does MM put his own feelings about players ahead of the good of the team ( bit like the Roy Keane / Ireland world cup situation? ).
Another set of statistics, no team has ever had two forwards score 80 goals in a season between them, the best you can hope for is one scoring at a rate of 1 goal every 2 games, ( 23 per season ) and one at 1 in 3 ( 15 ) giving a total of 38 goals between then, leaves you needing 40 goals from midfield, that is 10 goals per player at a rate of 1 goal every 4 games. Our current midfield goalscoring rates are as follows:-
Denes Rosa 13 in 26 rate 1 in 2
Gray 3 in 11 1 in 4
Edwards 1 in 10 1 in 10
Oli 3 in 36 1 in 12
Henry 3 in 42 1 in 14
Gibson 1 in 16 1 in 16

Apart from yet again questioning MM’s treatment of Denes Rosa, and quite why we have no automatic player to step in to replace an injured Kites/Jarvis, it does clearly show where our goalscoring problems lie; in midfield. Frankly I was amazed to hear Oli described as an attacking midfielder, having spent the past four seasons assuming he was there as for his defencive qualities.

So Freddy is finally leaving, Ok I can accept that as long as MM doesnt become a total hipocrite and keep the rest of the no hopers here either. ie. Ward x 2, Collins, Bothroyd, Elliot, Potter, Breen, Edwards and fans favourite Henry to name just a few. And the jury is still out on the rest of his so called star young buys as well Foley (looked good at first, seems to of lost the plot lately, Jarvis (He looks like a bottler to be honest but hope he proves me wrong), Keogh (lacks quality but dont really like to critcise as he does give 100%) David Edwards (injury prone by the look of it so he should fit in well)

Last July n August I was really loking forward to the season with McCarthy’s purchases, big squad with loadsa potential. What a flop it was and we all know why, we’ve been posting the reasons on here ever since.
This close season however it is completely the opposite, with Freddie now gone and all the other crap purchases likely to stay(cos no one else would ave em) I dread to think what he’ll bring in to bolster our Prem bid. If there will be anyone good they probably won’t fit in anyway in the end. All the kids will stay out on loan. I’ve bought a season ticket again but as opposed to last season, I am already not looking forward to next season. We will be too far behind by the time we get rid rid Zoot for the replacement manager to make a telling difference. Roll on the season after next
Oh and by the way, good luck Freddy. Hope you ram it down Zoot’s throat next season whoever you play for and make a point of it on National TV n Radio n Press

For those criticizing Freddy, I can only assume that you are just Moxey henchmen and have never been to a game and watched Freddy play.
When he gets the ball he is like poetry in motion, he has that rare class that only a handful of players have. He does the unexpected, because he is wild and not coached!
That is where the problem has occurred. McCarthy has only one tactic, and he couldn’t ram-fit Eastwood into it. So, as a thick Yorkie it was obvious that Freddy was wrong!
Freddy may not be a world-class genius, however under the right manager don’t be too sure about that, but he provides that tingle when he is on the ball that only a few players can achieve. Waggy, Hinton, Richards had touch of it, but not as wild as our Eastwood.
This is all lost on thick Mick, so obviously he has to go. Can’t put in a shift.
This just illustrates how inadequate McCarthy is to run the Wolves for another season. It will end in tears, as it always does with McCarthy.
We will be the poorer with yet another bad decision from a very bad CEO.

In all honesty after a very messy Wolves career it will be good to see the back of him! The whole controversy has created all sorts of infighting that has been a strong contributing factor to our sad demise this season.

As has been mentioned he has not played for Ireland nor Sunderland so that may be the key issue that means he does not fit in at the wolves.So going by that we can expect to see the remaining non Ireland/Sunderland players being tranfer listed and mick signing Roy keanes cast offs in the closed season.

Denes Rosa has been on the transfer list for over a year but is still a Wolves squad member. Why does everyone think that he would have been our saviour when 91 managers don’t see him as fitting into their team? (ok most will have been ruled out of considering him by his compensation package).
But, building on that observation, on that basis there is no guarantee that there is interest in any club signing Freddie (other than Coventry) so why wouldn’t he be a Wolves squad member next season?, fighting for a place and performing in training to guarantee a place in the team. It wouldn’t be the first time a Wolves player has been placed on the transfer list but been available for the 1st team and history has shown that some players respond well to that situation.
Having been spoilt by the “Bully” years there is only one contender for the No. 9 shirt next season and Keogh is about 27th in line in my opinion (it has to be given to SEB).
Overall the whole season has been a disappointment which was summed up on Sunday by the team knowing that if there was any chance of a good outcome at Watford (i.e a draw at best) they would need a 3 goal positive margin – but yet they only had one shot on target. Criminal!!!
I’m sick and tired of shouting “shoot” from my vantage point in the stands to players that should have an inbred knowledge that kicking the ball towards the net is more likely to result in a goal than a drag back or an overhit chip to the far post.
It’s all very frustrating! Get a shooting coach in over the summer and we’ll be laughing all the way to the Premiership.

The fans also have to take a portion of the blame for him going IMO.
Constantly chanting “Freddy Freddy” when strikers who were playing missed a chance did nothing to endear him to the fans who didn’t give a shit he wasn’t playing, or the manager who felt his players out there were getting a bum deal when it came to support and possibly a knock in confidence as well.
Also it only helped to create a rift at the club between the fans and the manager which the media were all too soon to pick up on, prompting endless questions about him whenever a microphone was stuck underneath Moxey/McCarthy’s nose, and endless moronic calls to phone-ins demanding he be played or that with him in the team we would be champions.
I’m sure McCarthy got sick of having to answer why he left him out of the team, even if he didn’t come out and say so.
Then we come to the dressing room. It’s been mentioned that he doesn’t seem to have endeared himself to his team-mates, whether this be at training or in goal celebrations. I’m sure the other players who were giving their all week in week out felt some small amount of resentment that he was lauded as some kind of hero on the terraces, whilst every small mistake was jeered for them.
It all adds up, and I’m sure there’s stuff been said behind closed doors. All in all it’s a good thing for the club and the rest of the team that he’s going. I wish him all the best at his next club but it would be more damaging if he stayed IMO.

inept,the happy clapper’s only want him stay so they can be proved wrong in his 3RD SEASON!,in my eye’s this season he should have been looking for automatic promation,he should have built on the 06/07 season……..oh hang on a bit by buying d.ward & selling mcindoe when he knew jarvis was injured when he brought him and not haveing cover??,oh that’s another point he moan’s about haveing no cover for the left-side and send’s d.jones out on loan,basically he had the 06/07 season to sort his team out,and yes we overachived,this season he should built on it but have we???.

I salute Bret and his analysis. Aside from Seb, the club has today put the best goalscorer in the division on the list. He has scored all season long with Wales and was never given a chance at this club. We know only too well from history that he is gonna come back and celebrate the goals he scores in front of mccarthy- if he lasts that long. this club is not moving forward. 6 weeks into the season there will be another manager ‘trying’ to save our season, rebuilding in january and havin to think about ‘next season’. Next season. Building. Promising. Future. I am bored of hearing these words.

We have the top striker in the Division, even better than that Philips bloke from down the road, so why are you all going on about some bloke who was only interested in setting himself up for the super goal?
MM wants a partnership and has been trying to get one for the last two years, he now has that; Keogh to set them up Banks to put them away, Freddy would never do that he plays too deep and sets himself up not the partner.
Steve Bull would never have scored all those goals without Mutch or Keen setting them up.
It’s no wonder the Baggies fans call us the Dingles the way we moan all the time.

To All of Micks Muppetts who answer everything by telling people to go and support someone else. You have no right whatsoever to tell people where to go and who to support.
We all are entitled to an opinion and just because it’s not supporting Thick Mick doesn’t mean it’s against the Wolves. Actually a lot of us feel you’re support of Mick is against the future of the wolves.
With a decent manager this season we would have finished in the top 2.

Good luck memories. Especially that fantastic through ball to SEB with the outside of your boot! Best ball I rememeber in my 25 year life down the Wolves.
I am a big fan, but he is going and I will just leave it.
But have to say 3 goals in 10 starts equals 1 in just over 3. He never started more than 3 games since he got dropped in Sept. If he had 40 starts that is about 12 goals. And I think we would of been in play offs now. But hey ho!
Also he has been very unlucky hitting the post on countless occasions. Good luck to you mate, just hope you dont score against us, but can see it happening!

what is happenin here?? no wonder the team dont perform well when the fans are at each others throats! this is terrible. im a mick mccarthy fan & im also a freddy fan & its a real shame it has come to this. you cant argue with the stats as above but even so the lads need our undying support – whatever is happening on or off the pitch. i want to believe that we CAN do it next season but i think firstly the fans need to pull together & show that we are supportive whatever the cost. if losing freddy settles issues within the club & helps us with promotion – who are we to argue when we all want the same thing!!

Did A)complain, moan and encourage a support backlash for his manager or did he B)get on with his game, do what the manager asked and come back better then before?

The best two goalscorers in regards to goals scored per games started were Freddie Eastwood and Denes Rosa – Mick you really are a muppet, every time Freddie scores next season I will jump up and applaud – probably get some stick but people will start realising what a barnacle you are on Wolves, dragging it down

Freddy was never going to be given a chance at wolves. If he had been played more then he would of done wonders for the club, fact is that his manager just did not like him (or maybe his background)so therefore never gave him a fair go. Freddy has worked hard to get where he is, Freddy is a goal scorer he is passionate about the game and always has been he deserves so much more. I hope Freddy is blessed with a manager that wants him and wants to push him to be all he can be. x
