Albion celebrate while Wolves miss out

Tony Mowbray’s men were crowned champions after taking all three points at Loftus Road.

After the game, Mowbray said: “It’s been a long, long season. This team has won more points than anyone else and scored more goals. They deserve to be champions.”

The Baggies were all-but promoted going into the final day of the season but won their final fixture to ensure they received the trophy after the game.

Mowbray and chairman Jeremy Peace will now begin planning Albion’s return to the Premier League.

Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and Anfield will now be on the fixture list as Albion look to compete in the top flight.

They have only lasted more than one season once since the Premier League was formed.

Promotion will bring a lucrative war chest, thanks to the increased TV money, but the club’s bosses will know that new signings, plus current players who extend their deals, will expect to share the rewards.

Albion fans will enjoy the fact that rivals Wolves missed out on a play-off place at the death despite beating Plymouth 1-0 at home.

They were joined in the Premier League by Stoke, whose 0-0 draw with Leicester guaranteed them second place and sent the East Midlands side into the third tier of English football for the first time.

But the day belonged to Albion, who enjoyed their day out in the capital.

The team regularly hailed as the best footballing side in the division had finally taken the top prize.

Send us your tributes to the players – the best will be printed in the Express & Star

Well done Tony Mowbray and the players more highs and lows than a rollercoaster but you did it .
Mr Mowbrays style of play vindicated beyond doubt stuck by his guns good for him he has what it takes to do a job.
Mr Peace have you, will it be thousands or millions to spend ? i know wich one i would put my money on again.
What a waste of time and effort off Tony the players and fans if thats the case we are not that far off a team that can compete and stay up.
So Mr Peace lets see what you and the board are made of speculate to accumulate give us fans your all like we have done for so so many years.
Any way we are there lets stay there and i have not been so happy since the great escape Albion up and the Dingles missin out by a single goal ouch priceless.

Just to top a brilliant day surrounded by PowerRangers, Gladiators, Elizabeth 1st, Batmen and Spidermen. We met a copper on a horse with a sense of humuor. He tried everything to get the Albion Fans to turn right (coming out the gate), until he heard “If you’re Champions Turn Right, if you’re Champions turn right” … so sang it through the megaphone !!!! – Brilliant – Respect to QPR for making it great day – FOOTBALL was the WINNER. Congratulations to Tony Mowbray and the players, worthy champions. It’s good to see a manager endorse proper football proving you can be successful by playing attractive entertaining football. Mowbray is a shrewd man and will prove he can cut it with the overrated cheque book managers in the Premiership.

The fact is that Albion have won the Championship by careful financial management, shrewd transfer dealing, with a manager and new players that few people had heard of 18 months ago, plus an attacking, entertaining style of football that’s impressed many people.Anyone coming here to put us down must either be jealous or just very sad.

wow well done crappies-won (against ten men AGAIN and the help of an ex wolves player) what as in large been a very, very poor league, first league championship in 88 years (another 88 to go), the best team-is that why you only finished 2 points in front of stoke! and before you say it-yes-it is sour grapes, but I am not down-I can see the bigger wider picture that is being built at my club-instead of a club that is not so much a yo-yo club but a boinging, boinging club,
I would also like to applaud the crappie fans who at last have woken up to what all we “dingles” have know for years-THE MEANING OF THE LETTER S and it ain’t superman.
Enjoy your wallopings in the prem.my bet is less points than derby because lets face it they are a better team than you and they are coming down-THEY BEAT YOUR LOT AT WEMBLY.

Parades should be confined to clubs who actually something ‘proper’.Being promoted to the top flight is merely in the realms of ‘job done’ and certainly not something I would want to ‘celebrate’.It will be a far greater achievement to stay up but I wouldn’t be having a ‘parade’ for that either.Lets wait til we have the FA Cup or League Cup to show off or at least until we are in europe!

Well we are back in the big time. Plus points are the dosh of course and erm, well, thats about it really. We will struggle of course. We are in danger of falling between stools, half the teams will out pass us,the other half will out-muscle us.We will pay ridiculous amounts of wonga to watch this unfold and can only hope that three other teams get thrashed more often than we do,on that score there is a small chance because Stoke and whoever wins the play-offs wont do better than us and at least one other team will have a ‘bad season’,probably Sunderland and so thats our aim,17th place,16th would be a bonus,15th would be amazing, above that and we are into the realms of fantasy.Still,we’ve a small chance too in the cups and watching the likes of Man United rather than Scunthorpe has its compensations but don’t listen to anyone who tells you we can go beyond these somewhat limited bounderies, such talk, from within the club or outside is propaganda my friends, nothing else.
