Best venues shine alongside stars
Saturday 3rd May 2008, 10:35AM BST.
Pub landlords, theatre bosses and tourist attraction staff were facing a sleepless night tonight as they waited to see if they were to be named among the region’s entertainment elite.
The third annual Express & Star Spotlight Awards takes place tomorrow – and with a star-studded line-up, as well as a host of awards for our best days and nights out, it’s shaping up to be the best yet.
The event at Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall honours all those venues that pull out all the stops.
Previous winners have included Bilston’s Robin 2- twice named Best Concert Venue (Medium). Last year Wolverhampton pub the Combermere Arms picked up Best Pub and the Grand Theatre was named Best Theatre for the second time. This year dozens of venues from across the Black Country and Staffordshire will be vying for the coveted titles.
Throughout the night some of the country’s leading entertainers will take to the stage – and the dancefloor. Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton du Beke and Erin Boag will be doing a demonstration of their fabulous footwork which has captivated audiences of the hit BBC1 show. Former Slade frontman Noddy Holder MBE is the night’s special guest, presenting an award before becoming the first name on the Civic Hall’s Wall of Fame, created as part of the venue’s 70th anniversary celebrations.
X Factor finalists Beverley Trotman and Futureproof will also be showing off their talents.
Jonn Penney, Civic spokesman, said: “The Spotlight Awards is always a great night and everyone’s looking forward to tomorrow night, it’s going to be a fantastic celebration.”
The event, which starts at 7.30pm, is supported by Wolverhampton Civic Halls, Heart FM and Black Country Tourism.
l Tickets for the balcony, £7, are available from the Midland Box Office on 0870 320 7000 or on the door.
