Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Kightly back in England picture
Thursday 1st May 2008, 10:16AM BST.
Michael Kightly will get his first opportunity to impress the Fabio Capello regime in a couple of weeks – if Wolves fail to make the Championship play-offs.
Kightly has yet to complete 90 minutes for his club since recovering from ankle surgery but that has not deterred boss Stuart Pearce from naming him in his latest England Under-21 squad.
Kightly will play against Wales in a one-off friendly at Wrexham on May 15 with club colleague Wayne Hennessey also due to feature for the home nation.
But both will have to be withdrawn if Wolves reach the Championship play-offs this weekend.
Kightly will have mixed feelings as he is desperate for Wolves to extend their season after Sunday’s final round of fixtures – but a return to the Under-21 fold will be some consolation.
With no senior international running alongside this game, Pearce has also given Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor an extra chance to grab a place among Fabio Capello’s main squad.
And ex-Walsall duo Scott Dann and Daniel Fox, now at Coventry, retain their places after making debuts in the friendly against Poland at Molineux. Albion duo Ishmael Miller and Luke Moore, both named for that game, miss out. Pearce has rested experienced players such as Ashley Young.
Squad: Joe Hart (Man City), Tom Heaton (Man Utd), Joe Lewis (Peterborough); Matt Connolly (QPR), Martin Cranie (Portsmouth), Scott Dann (Coventry), Danny Fox (Coventry), Michael Mancienne (Chelsea), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke), Andrew Taylor (Middlesbrough), David Wheater (Middlesbrough); Lee Cattermole (Middlesbrough), Adam Johnson (Middlesbrough), Michael Johnson (Man City), Michael Kightly (Wolves), Grant Leadbitter (Sunderland), Fabrice Muamba (Blues), Mark Noble (West Ham), Jamie O’Hara (Tottenham); Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Dexter Blackstock (QPR), Fraizer Campbell (Man Utd), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Surely Ebanks Blake has got to be worth a call up? If Blackstock is in there, come on!

Kightly is playing well, but now called up for internationals! if he does well in this game! he maybe forced to sit on the bench for the whole season

You are quite correct, us Tesco`s have no one in the England or Wales U21 squad`s,
so we will just have to make do with second best……promotion to the prem.

Can anyone explain why Mick McCarthy failed to grab Scott Dann? A young, pacey central defender with a great future and will only appreciate in value. AND he was only down the road for gawd’s sake!
So many mistakes, so little time to list them all.

Blimey an article on how well your own players doing and all you can say is anti albion stuff. I ain`t keen on them but got to admit they are a lovely side to watch and the football at times has been streets ahead of the rest of the division.
Get over it boys, theyre up and deserve to be.

Haaaaaaaaa – SBBA just made me spray coffee on me key board…
Wolves are “RESPECTED WORLDWIDE”
Wolves are “ADMIRED BY MILLIONS”
Wolves aint even respected and admired by their own fans….
No club will ever be as big as wolves – in SBBA’s own mind – and thats cos he aint got the room !!!
Haaaaaa – he thinks “the world” watches The Championship on ITV every sunday……. wolves cant get on SKY cos they don’t play big enough games.
p.s – sorry about the CAPS – thats what happens when you cut and paste a moron.

14) Scored loads of goals and conceded more than most. They were not streets ahead of everyone – they have lost 1 less game than us and we have been average.
I have seen Barnett, Clement,Kiely quoting about cementing themselves in the Premiership. Half the side will be nothing more than subs, as they will be too old or not good enough for the class above.
No sour grapes, well done but they will be competing in the bottom 6 and will probably be favourites to come back down. The truth is most sides in the West Midlands will struggle to attract players!

(23) Not worth comment!!

I heared a whisper from the Wolves back room that Pearce came to look at Little. U16 U18 & U19 England International and because MM hadnt played and developed him all season he lost his chance – he must be well chuffed
