Soap stars pitch in for charity
Wednesday 30th April 2008, 11:32AM BST.
Soap stars will be putting their football skills to the test when they take part in a charity match at Halesowen Town FC. Actors from Hollyoaks and Emmerdale will take part.
They will take to the pitch on Sunday, August 17, to raise vital funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice, which helps youngsters across the Midlands. Emmerdale won 4-2 in the last game against Hollyoaks in aid of Acorns two years ago and now return to defend their crown. Glenn Lamont, who played Emmerdale’s Richie Carter will be captain of the Emmerdale Allstars.
He said: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s celebrity football match in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
“Acorns helps hundreds of children whose future is uncertain, and supports the whole family. It’s a lifeline for local people and it’s a pleasure to help. The Hollyoaks versus Emmerdale Allstars match will be a great game. “
Other stars expected to play include Kelvin Fletcher, who plays Andy Sugden in Emmerdale and Nick Pickard, who plays Tony Hutchinson in Hollyoaks.
Galaxy FM’s popular breakfast host Dan Kelly will be the match compere and celebrities from shows including Shameless and Casualty are also expected to attend.
Tickets are on sale from tomorrow from www.acorns.org.uk or 0800 073 0001 and the Acorns shop in High Street, Halesowen.
They will also be sold without the cost of a booking fee at the Halesowen Acorns Shop on Saturday.
Acorns Children’s Hospice cares for and supports hundreds of life-limited children across the West Midlands.
