Stars in lecture to city students
Monday 28th April 2008, 11:15AM BST.
Football stars Cyrille Regis and Mel Eves paid a visit to the city’s university to give a guest lecture to media students.
Cyrille and Mel, who are now both football agents, talked about the sport’s changing relationship with the media.
Cyrille, who is also an honorary fellow of the University of Wolverhampton, spoke about his career as a footballer for Wolves and West Bromwich Albion and his current work as an agent.
He said: “It was great to be back and to give something to the students at the university where I am an honorary fellow. Who knows, maybe one day some of them will be interviewing one of my players.”
Mel added: “It was a pleasure to be invited to my home town university and hopefully impart something that might spur the students on to great things.”
Head of media at the school of humanities, languages and social sciences, Paul Brighton, said: “Cyrille and Mel also looked at how sport’s relationship with the media has changed.”
Cyrille Regis gained five England caps and played for the Baggies, Coventry City, Aston Villa, Wolves, Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City before retiring in 1996. After coaching roles he became an football agent with Stellar Group Ltd.
Mel Eves played in more than 300 games for Wolves, including their League Cup final victory over Nottingham Forest in 1980.
He later played for Manchester City, Sheffield United and Gillingham and now works for Eleven Sports Management.
