Hotel to keep Robin abreast of times
Sunday 27th April 2008, 11:07AM BST.
A new hotel based at one of Wolverhampton’s top music venues will open next month. Eight bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms are being created at the Robin 2, meaning guests can flop into bed after watching some of the country’s best groups and tribute acts.
But they will also be sound-proof, so guests will not be disturbed by the music. The hotel, which has been in the pipeline for more than two years, will be officially opened by Lord Turner of Bilston on May 19.
Mike Hamblett at the Robin 2 said bookings were now being taken for the rooms.
“They are all simple but tasteful, and will have some sort of musical theme,” he said.
“There will be bed and breakfast and we are taking on extra staff to work there.”
Builders moved in two months ago to start work on the hotel at the club in Mount Pleasant.
The 12-week project has seen an old building next to the club gutted, with the exterior left untouched to retain its character.
It took two years to secure planning permission as the row of buildings where the club and the hotel are located is in a conservation area.
All of the rooms will be en-suite with digital televisions, with one room having full disabled facilities.
The hotel has cost £500,000 to create.
Three years ago the Robin underwent a grand refurbishment in which a new bar named after former Slade star Noddy Holder was created.
A new courtyard was spruced-up and dressing rooms for artists were extended.
Just days ago, it was revealed Bilston Town Football Club could also become home to a new hotel as part of its grand transformation.
Bosses at the 113-year-old club are planning to create a 60-bedroom hotel as part of a refurbishment project.

The Robin2 an excellent venue for an intimate concert – thoroughly enjoyed Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel!! We flew in from the USA and had a brilliant time there. Great to hear they offering rooms too!
