Molineux hooligan banned by court
Wednesday 23rd April 2008, 11:43AM BST.
A Wolves hooligan from Staffordshire who handed himself into police after he saw a CCTV photograph of himself in the Express & Star has been banned from football matches for three years.
Self-employed taxi-driver Kevin Till drunk 10 pints of lager before Wolves fans clashed with Stoke City supporters after a match at Molineux on February 9.
Wolverhampton Magistrates Court heard yesterday how the 39-year-old had been part of a gang throwing “missiles” and had clapped and encouraged the fracas after Wolves lost 4-2.
Till, of Lansdown Way, Rugeley, has been going to matches since 1979. He admitted using threatening words and behaviour and causing people to fear unlawful violence.
Mrs Jayne Yeomans, prosecuting, said: “Police officers captured Mr Till on video during the disorder and they say they saw him throwing a number of objects at the Stoke City supporters. The officers believe he was encouraging the disorder.”
Mr Rob Govier, defending, said: “Mr Till identified himself because his picture appeared in the Express & Star a week or so ago and when he realised it was him, he contacted the police himself. He is only here because he went in to see what it was all about.”
Magistrates also ordered Till to do 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £60 costs.
* Three men are to stand trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court after pleading not guilty to affray and violence relating to the trouble. Shaun Jones, 18, of Park Lane, Fallings Park; Steven Walters, 21, of Malpass Walk, Park Village; and Dwayne Pearce, 19, of Valley Road, Park Village, appear before magistrates on June 3.
