Police guard at molineux for rivals

Monday 21st April 2008, 11:25AM BST.

female-officer.jpgUp to 1,000 Cardiff fans will be bussed in and out of Molineux under police guard to stop violence erupting at their match with Wolves tomorrow night.

But other security measures will be scaled down in a bid to make the clash, which has a history of trouble, into “just another game”.

Chief Superintendent Richard Green, Wolverhampton police commander, said today: “We are working on a staged return to normal arrangements with some agreed controlled measures to prevent potential disorder.

“As this is an evening fixture, it is anticipated that far fewer Cardiff supporters will be attending the game but an escorted arrival scheme for them will operate in order to help minimise potential for disorder.”

The move towards trying to treat the match like any other game of the season has been welcomed by Wolves.

Club spokesman Matt Grayson said: “It is a step in the right direction. Cardiff fans have been allowed to travel by the authorities but under restrictions.

“It is now up to them to behave well tomorrow and in the intervening period before any future fixture. Any decision on future restrictions will then be made on the intelligence available at the time and the current safety record of the Cardiff supporters.”

Meetings between the clubs have been marred by violence and controversy in recent years.

Trouble flared in March 2006 when riot police battled with Cardiff fans in the Steve Bull stand.

Running battles followed after the final whistle, when yobs hurled stones in the city centre, and one officer was knocked out.

It led to Bluebirds fans being banned from Molineux. The tension worsened earlier this year when Wolves fans were banned from travelling to Cardiff  for an FA Cup tie, which Wolves lost 2-0.

Your team is in major need of an influx of new players for next season. As we have got a lot of younger players, we would have 4 or 5 that could do a job in the premier. Albion have not got that many – none of the defence, a few midfielders and possibly Phillips as a bit part player!

I think all Baggy 1 is trying to suggest is that since we were knocked out of the FA cup and probably before then the Albion pages were full of Dingles fans constantly talking about how our bubble was going to burst. You were also pointing out what a massive club Wolves are compared to the Albion and how you were going to cruise ito the Play offs!

Therefore all Baggy 1 is suggesting is, what a load of rubbish you talk!! The league table speaks for it self!!

As for you JIWAL – What are you on! Your prediction is based on what?

MikeQB…so a bigger club is based on attendances. so Man United get bigger gates than Liverpool,Arsenal and Chelsea ..so therefore are a Bigger Club. I think all four are equal and next year Man United will not win the Premier..one of the other three will !! Money talks and not attendances. QPR are a much smaller club than you, based on your equation since they have much lower crowds, but will win the Championship next Season without too much trouble. Your larger catchment area doeasn’t mean you are a bigger club, you will have to re-evaluate your data to improve your argument. Wolves were big in the 50′s since I beleive they had both crowds and silverware, but not now.

Hark at the Sandwell town fans……
    It is hysterical.
The arrogance of them is mindblowing….they think they are up already. Maybe they are.Doesn’t stop them slagging off Mowbray and Dean doodah goalie every time they so much as draw a match. Do they really think we care about them and their pathetic team.Like we have anything at all to be jealous of them about…..he says, falling off his computer chair in fits of unadulterated mirth.Their ageing not-quite-good-enough-for-the-premier league squad…or our talented but naive, up and coming very YOUNG team….who still are only a handful of points behind.

You only have to look at their town and their ground.
West Brumwich is a sad, falling down, doghole inhabited by scutters and inbreds. A sad delapidated bus stop on the outskirts of Birmingham, which is where there ground is…in Birmingham. So they’ll be the poor sad third team in Brum…..Yippedoo. Thrashed every game…the premierships NEW whipping boys. Can’t wait to see the Villa/Boggies game …IF THEY ACTUALLY DO GET THERE.
Let them have their minute of glory, then we can go back to our, busy, lively, switched on, happening CITY, safe in the knowledge that the low life will shortly destruct and come tumbling back down..all bitter and twisted…again.
If Wolves do get promoted it’d be too soon…We are realistic over here in the green of Staffordshire, not deluded in the grime of North Birmingham like Sandwell Albion town.
So we’ll wait another year for promotion. We have the time. We are still building. With your 20 million squad you should have walked this division. With our young rebuilding, 5 million squad we have had a reasonable season.
    Our time will come.
Unlike those sad boggies we have every reason to be quite happy really.
    Great City.
    Great people.
    Great club.
    And NOT in Birmingham.
No wonder them boggies are so bitter.
