Kighty set to make comeback
Friday 18th April 2008, 12:00PM BST.
Michael Kightly’s long wait for a return to the Championship battle ground is over.
The England Under-21 international will be in the Wolves squad for tomorrow’s crunch showdown with Ipswich at Molineux although boss Mick McCarthy is refusing to reveal what role he will play.
Kightly, having made one abortive bid for a comeback, has effectively been missing from Wolves’ promotion challenge since he limped out of the Black Country derby in November.
But, with his ankle injury now behind him after surgery and two appearances in reserve level football, McCarthy is ready to bring him back.
The return of such a sorely missed figure will give the Wolves camp a boost when they need it most – and raise the exciting prospect of Kightly and Matt Jarvis providing a real threat from the wings for McCarthy’s side.
“Michael will be involved but I don’t see why I should give Ipswich any more clues,” said the Wolves boss.
“At some stage we will get both Kites and Matt Jarvis in the side, both fit, and we will be a threat out wide.
“But we can’t have any regrets about the injury troubles that has prevented this so far. There is nothing we can do about it.
“It’s good to get some fresh legs back.”
Kightly said: “I played for nearly 70 minutes in a friendly on Tuesday and everything felt fine.
“But obviously first team football is much different, much quicker and more intense and so now it’s just a case of building up my fitness. But the only way to do that is out on the pitch.”
Striker Stephen Ward is also available again.
Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed today the club would not be extending their interest in trialist Aurelian Collin, who is looking for a new start after leaving crisis hit Gretna and played in the private friendly against Crewe on Tuesday.

Great news. Can’t wait for the game on Saturday. Tuesday is in the past. Let’s look forward to getting three points on the board, and hope Palace slip up at Watford.

GOOD LUCK !!!

1. Nah i’d play Gray left back. Simple.

eddie..please explain why KEOGH FRANKOWSKI should start..he’s proved beyond doubt he AIN’T NO GOAL SCORER. we are in the position we’re in because of an alarming shortage of goals.
why keep playing guys who can’t score when a proven goal scorer is sat on the bench. we need 4 wins to have a chance at the play offs. to win we need to score..putin’ a shift in might please the muppet..BUT IT WON’T GET US PROMOTED.
FREDDY..FREDDY..FREDDY..FREDDY..FREDDY

Southbank: where do you think Ebanks-Blake has got most his goals from – it’s because of Keogh’s fantastic work off the ball. However, Freddy does need more time on the pitch so he can really show us what he can do rather than 10 mins at the end of a game!
Up the Wolves!

i feel breen should start and gray in place of elokobi!!!

I wouldn’t drop Gray. I’d switch him to left back, put Elokobi in the middle with fanny Craddock and drop Collins.

I hope Elokobi decides to play this week as against West Brom he was awful. With him & Collins at the back we will not keep clean sheets so need Kites fit make sure we score more than we conceed!

I agree Berkshie Wolf
Southbank, I have watched Freddy make numerous 15 minute cameos off the bench and he has done nothing. True, he hasnt a had a long run out, but surely he could have done something in one of those run outs. He is lazy and doesnt want to be at Wolves! What did he Tuesday? Nothing.
NUFF SAID!!!

Kites will not start, why risk him on a full match…? 20 minutes 0-2 down, replacement for gray. Eastwood last 10, for KK. as usual, no change there then. Town will read us like a book and MMs team strat/tactics, be all over by half time….
I know i am pessimistic, I’ve been following the team too long and i read MM like a book so a pro manager is not going to have any trouble.

Must admit I was glad Kites didn’t make the derby. Would have made a huge difference. To say this guy was playing non-league football and now is so missed in a Championship side fighting for promotion, proved how he has improved so much. Got to go up I’m afraid or the vultures will be poaching him…
Report abuse
Collins out Ward in. Elokobi out Gray left back. Gibson out, replace with a cone! Or you could play Henry or Edwards if fit. Kites on the right.
That should do it!

in the past 3months of the season wolves have scored more goals than the opposition has with freddy eastwood on the pitch
now im not saying its down to him! but we do tend to score more with him playing
my worry is that players dont pass to him, seems silly comment i know! but if any of you went to bristol c you could tell this from mile, keogh had simple no v.simple ball to put freddy through but decided to go it alone and fall over
Report abuse
Eddie Wolf – you don’t very often talk sense mate ;) but I 100% agree with you about Freddie Eastwood. He doesn’t want to play for wolves, when he came on, on Tuesday, can anyone tell me what position he was supposed to be playing? He was marking George Elokobi at left back, he is not interested at wolves and should be shipped out NOW!
eddiewolf. give eastwood a start and he will do what he does for wales. it’s all about confidence when your a striker and the poor lads got none. keogh is lazy and backs out allot of his challenges up front. and for kites bring him on if we need him in the 60th minute or so if not keep it as long as we need to be. and get behind the lads on sat.
And I thought we’d laid the freddy question to bed weeks ago, fact is in the summer he’ll be gone, his attitude and workrate meant that he wouldn’t fit into the team. Rightly or wrongly he is not part of the future at wolves.
On the plus note, a return for Kightly will be a fantastic boost for the team just when we need it, hopefully we can pick up the form from before our 2 week break
Report abuse
I would be bold and play edwards and oli in midfield, wouldn’t play Freddy because i never seen him play centre forward when he comes on he always hangs round at full back or left of mid.Drop collins and play Breen must play gray with Jarvis down the left.
Need to be positive a draw is no good to us we need to win.
I would drop Elokobi regardless of whether Kightly is fit. He was useless on Tuesday and doesn’t look like a footballer. He was at fault for the goal, and I remember once where he kicked the ball straight out of play.
No doubt Stephen Ward’s name will be first on the team sheet!!!!

I’d like to think this midfield had lots of future potential.

Cant drop player of the season GREY.Give Elokobi a rest, played rubbish against the Baggy’s but i still like him and i think he will go on and do a job for the Wolves.
Great news about Kites, get him back with keogh.
Leave Freedy on the bench looked totaly un-interested Tuesday

Kiglty Best Wolves Player At The Club !! !! By The Way How Does Keogh Get Played Instead Of Freddy ?? KEOGH’S A JOKE , HE DOSENT MAKE ANYTHING, LOSSES THE BALL TO MUCH , TO LIGHTWEIGHT , GETS NOCKED OF THE BALL TO EASY,CARNT CREATE NOTHING , ALWAYS FALLS OVER , ETC. RUNS LIKE A HEADLESS CHICKEN ALL GAME !!… WERE AS YOU HAVE FREDDY .. STRONG,CREATES CHANCES , MAKES HIS OWN CHANCES , BRINGS PLAYERS INTO PLAY, AND NEVER LOSSES THE BALL !! MICK IT IS ABOUT TIME YOU GIVE THIS GUY A CHANCE !! TO MANY FAVOURITES AGAIN !! HATE THE WAY YOU HAVE TREATED HIM AND LEFT HIM OUT AND ALL THE WOLVES FANS NO HE SHOULD BE IN THE TEAM BEACUSE THE 1ST 4 GAMES HE GOT 4 GOALS AND FOR WALES HE SCORES ALL THE TIME !! THE ONLY BAD THING I CAN POINT OUT ABOUT FREDDY IS HE IS A STRIKER NOT A LEFT BACK OR LEFT MIDFIELDER LIKE HE WAS DOING ON TUESDAY NIGHT .. HE IS A STRIKER !! BIG SAM OR PAUL INCE IN !! WE WILL NEVER GET IN THE PLAY-OFFS !! MICK OUT !! FREDDY FREDDY FREDDY !! GIVE HIM A RUN NOW !!

24.
Thats a good midfield from an attacking point of view, but I think it’s too attack minded. No holiding or defensive midfielder. And with the state of our defence at the moment, I wouldn’t feel at all confident.

Eddie- Here we are struggling for a 6th spot, not scored many goals, relying on SEB to score – are you really satisfied with the current arrangements? Changes are needed to score goals, lets give Freddy a good run and see, can’t be any worse than the current setup which has/is NOT working. Otherwise lets huff and puff and stay down the Muppet way!

I am surprised that it took 23 comments before someone realised that somebody will be dropped to accomodate S.Ward! Don’t forget this is MM’s best ever signing so it makes sense that he will be straight back in the team.
As regards the comments about Freddy not being interested and hanging around at the back with our full bakcs – could this be that when he actually played up front – he was dropped like a brick by Thick Mick for not running around enough?
If we do start playing with Kightly and Jarvis on the wings then Kyle has to play alonside SEB to get on the end of the quality crosses that will hopefully be coming in. I know he’s not popular but would be very effective, as he was for the last ten minutes against albion. (he showed just how bad their back 4 is put under the slightest bit of We’d still have Freddy to come on when games get stretched or when we need something different, preferably for more than ten minutes at the end.

WHY DO YOU ALL KEEP PICKING TEAMS..WE ALL KNOW WHAT OUR BEST SIDE WOULD BE..THE ONLY PERSON WHO DOESN’T IS BIG DUMB MICK WHO’S JOB IT IS..AND HE’S NEVER GONNA AGREE WITH ANYTHING YOU SAY.

I’m guessing the two Boggies at 28 and 29 are one in the same! Surely there aren’t two people who make near identical quotes both who are so thick that they spell LOSERS wrong……Losers!!!
Then again they are from Sandwell so I guess it’s understandable!!
