Boy fights for life after crash

Friday 18th April 2008, 11:42AM BST.

A boy of four was fighting for life today after being knocked down on a main road into Wolverhampton. The youngster, who suffered head injuries, was found by medics lying unconscious on the Bilston Road.

The incident took place at All Saints and the boy was taken to the city’s New Cross Hospital.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving shortly.

Police cordoned off a stretch of the road heading into the city, near to the Renault showroom, after the crash which happened at around 3.45pm yesterday.

Specialist officers from West Midlands Police carried out skid tests on the road last night.

A small section of the road heading into the city, around 100 yards away from the busy Bilston Street island, was taped off by officers for several hours yesterday evening.

Chris Kowalik, from West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “The crew found a boy lying unconscious in the road. He had suffered a head injury. The boy was taken on blue lights to New Cross Hospital, which had been put on alert.”

West Midlands Police spokesman Steve Geary said the arrested man had been released on bail pending further investigations. He is due to return to a police station at the end of May.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact the Bilston Street police station’s road policing unit on 0845 113 5000.

Where was his mother or father when al of this happened then?? Surely a four year wasn’t alone on a busy main road at his age. This is so disgusting, and could have been prevented if he was with someone at the time.

Skid tests at night, Id like to see that evidence hold up as a comparator for the conditions that were there when the collision happened. Bilston Road is incredibly busy at that section with cars coming from all angles, no place for a kid!

Some poor bloke is going to get done because a kid stepped out onto a road he shouldnt have been crossing.

Perhaps we ALL need to be in possession of the facts BEFORE we make a judgement? Apportioning blame should be the lowest priority at the moment – a small child is very sick in hospital, he must be terrified and his parents must be devestated (whether they have done wrong or not). Not forgetting the driver(who again may or may not have been to blame – a fact we dont have at the present.) HE will be traumatised by this too! STOP THE ‘BLAME GAME’ FOR GOD’S SAKE – wait until you know all the facts!!!

the father was at work where else would a father be when earning some money to bring up a small family OR as some people do and I dont which is sell drugs or break the law because they are too bone idle to get off their backsides to do something legal. The mother was two feet away with their other children when he had decided to move .As far as Angie is concerned is she one off these that if she has got kids does she drive them to school because she is too idle to walk? as far as the lad is concerned he is still unconcious in B’ham childrens hospital.

we know the family well, they would NOT have left the child alone on a busy road at any time of the day let alone at the time of children leaving school! I think people should have some respect for the boys family as he is still unconcious at this time. what if this happened to one of your children? you wouldn’t like it if people were saying these things about you would you?
