Angry Albion fans missed the first 10 minutes of last night’s match against Wolves after being held back at the Metro stop by police.

Around 550 officers had flooded the city centre to prevent hooliganism.

Pubs were also closed before the game, which Wolves lost 1-0.

But dozens of Albion supporters on two pre-booked trams were forced to wait at the St George’s stop in Bilston Street until after 7.30pm until both had arrived. They were then escorted on the quarter-mile walk to Molineux by police.

Just two arrests were made out of the 24,000 fans who attended, although pockets of trouble flared around the city.

Fans confronted each other at around 9.50pm behind the Chubb buildings in Fryer Street but were moved on by police.

Half an hour later in Market Street a fight was broken up by 11 officers in riot gear.

Wolverhampton city centre was almost a ghost town as every bar and pub obeyed a police order to stay closed after 5pm.

The force helicopter hovered over the Wishbone bridge on Bilston Road after the final whistle as Albion fans, again flanked by police, made their way to The Royal Metro stop.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Jaspreet Jagdev thanked supporters from both clubs and local businesses for their co-operation.

Over the top from the coppers as usual, can’t believe they shut all the pubs. Most football fans are more than capable of having a drink before a game. We don’t suddenly undergo a Hulk like transformation as soon as we consume alcohol and go on the rampage

They were very heavy handed and nearly caused many people to miss the last train to London by blocking off the station.

The way we were herded out of the ground last night was ridiculous. I came out of the Jack Harris, wanting to get to West Park by the baths, and was herded like a bloody sheep all the way to the Civic Centre, then had to walk all the way down the main road!!!

The treatment that the Wolves supporter received from the Police after the game was a disgrace.

All the fans from the South Bank and Steve Bull upper made to go through the subway. I was constantly getting barged into and trodden on, and i saw one person who was seriously injured. Did the Police care? No. Absolutely diabolical. You try and get towards the station and the Police dont let you and they just swear at you and threaten to arrest you. To get home i had to cross the busy traffic on the Ring Road nearly getting myself killed in the process.

West Midlands Police are a complete joke. Wolverhampton is a Police city. If you have got a football shirt on, then look down on you like a piece of scum.

You may have the upper hand for now, but don’t forget normal service will be resumed sooner rather than later. having being made to wait 25 mins from getting off the metro and stood next to a billboard was not much fun, yes we missed the first 10 minutes but that was due to the last metro being delayed, I think its cause of the amount of fans we had. the police were a joke last night they helped create the possibilities of trouble by herding wolves fans through the town to get to the train station, then turning them away if they did not have a ticket

some fans like myself only wanted to get the first train home but were denied this by the police,so instead a large crowd were being refrained from getting transport and held back….

i can understand reasons behind it but it is only the minority who are hooligans who wanted to cause trouble but the majority of ordinary citizens were treated that way last night by the police…. so does that mean we should treat police all the same?? are they all like those white cops in america who attacked the black man who was complying with them??

    absolute joke!!!!!

I jsut about mad ekick off with around 100 or so albion fans. After getting off the train at 7pm we were then treated like sheep by the police who took us to the ground which took us 45mins just arriving for kick off. We stood we moved we stood we moved it was a joke!!
We are all adults and surely we can make our own way.
After the game we headed back to the station but been stopped by the police once again, once we moved from our “escort” towards the sation the albion fans were confronted by thugs in wolves shirts and masks- and obviously it went off!!
You never get this trouble at the albion- its the thug wolves fans who crate this every time we play them, and looking at some of tehre intelligent comments on here shows them up for what they are- Idiots

What is this ‘normal service’ you’re on about, Albion beating Wolves IS normal service. We’ve spent more years in the top flight, more years in the premiership, have won more FA cups, have a higher average finishing league position, Albion have beaten Wolves more often than vice-versa.

As for the game, all credit to the baggies (pains me to say it!). They were better all round, we resorted to hoofing it up to SEB all game, and whilst I like the look of him, miracle worker he aint!!

The policing was a disgrace on Tues night- we were herded up a bank which was muddy and steep- this was average fans, men women, children and pensioners
All of our clothes got muddy and my husband helped some older men over the fence at the top.
I think the police induced a trespass on their behalf as we were herded through what I tyhink is Uni grounds and a little recorded meeeage kept stating ‘this is a restricted area please leave’

Well done West Midlands POlice you must have cost the trade in the city centre hundreds of thousnads of pounds last night at a time when they need it more than ever, treat the home fans like rubbish and have no idea of how to logistically plan an operation.
If Wolves FC are prepared to let their fans be treated like this then it just shows how they have lost touch and are only interested in courting the corporate supporter.

As ever the WM Police creating problems.

As a football fan I feel sorry for those who missed some of the game. In no other walk of life can the Police get away with treating the public as they do at a football match.

I suspect that pubs will no longer close before the derby game either. There is a growing feeling against this in the city and something has to change or the Police will lose even more support. (If that is possible)

    Claustrophobic Wolf

The Police were an absolute disgrace after the game on Tuesday. Fans of all ages were herded from the South bank and the John Ireland stand and funnelled into the subway. It would have only taken someone to suffer a panic attack in the claustrophobic conditions for serious injury to have ensued. People at the back were starting to push creating a lot of pressure with a big crowd in a confined space.
WMP are very lucky no one was seriously injured.
Just normal people trying to get back to their transport to go home. Treated abysmally all for being a football fan
And on the 19th anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster – do they never learn?

We were beaten by the better side managed by someone who understands tactics
