Emotional rollercoaster: blogger

wolvesbadge.jpg

I’m expectant, apprehensive, nervous, worried and excited. I will have a constant rotation of different emotions as I think about nothing else today except the mouthwatering clash tonight, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.

We were unlucky not to take all three points from a fading Bristol City team at the weekend. City hardly had a sniff, yet we created some great chances and had a stonewall spot-kick claim turned down at the end. Taking a point hasn’t harmed our chances too much, although we could have done without an Ipswich victory in the East Anglian derby, which adds just a tad more pressure to tonight’s game.

Although recently voted the best derby game in the UK, TV cameras will tonight be at Oakwell and not Molineux, covering the glamorous all Yorkshire affair between Hull and Barnsley. I always feel that the cameras are just an unwanted distraction and I’m glad that this game will be only be seen by a full house of paying punters.

In a season of pretty mediocre football, all of a sudden this Wolves team has sparked into life and it’s the perfect time to play the Albion.

Hopefully the rapid Edwards will return in midfield tonight to partner Olofinjana and quash the big threat that the Baggies pose with Greening, Gera, Koren and Brunt or Morrison.

Albion have been extremely dodgy at the back recently, conceding goals early in games and they are obviously vulnerable to a set-piece or 2.

And as with Kightly in previous games, I’m sure Albion will see SEB as our main threat. Their bang on with that evaluation, but hopefully with their defence focused on Ebanks, Keogh or Jarvis will have a little more room to do some damage.

I want to see my Wolves team hungry for that ball, first to the tackle, strong and imposing right across the pitch. There isn’t any room for passengers.

The crowd also needs to play its part tonight. It’s been well documented all season about how this young side has been affected by the nervous Molineux crowd.

Hopefully the moaners will keep their traps shut and instead stay positive and help this team to victory.

I’m keeping my piece deliberately short today, I would rather hear from the fans and where you think the game will be won or lost? Where are our main strengths and weaknesses? How many are we going to win by?

Enjoy the game tonight, roar the lads on and hopefully together we can keep our Premiership dream alive.

Again, I think we are all getting carried away. The Boggies are a much stronger side than Wolves and have more of a threat from all over the pitch.

We are all dreaming if we think we can get to Cardiff and win the play-offs.

Albion will win 3 or 4 nil tonight and Mick will be replaced by Ince, finally.

I watched a bit of the Albion game the other night on TV and they were playing some very good, quick, attacking football.
I hope the Wolves can raise their game, like we have done on big occassions in the past, and get these three points we need to keep our promotion greams alive.
I just hope Albion don’t play the same calibre of football as they did the other day otherwise it’s going to be a very tough game!

Spot on with the article Nathan I think that this a great chance for the fans to provide a killer atmosphere tonight.

I also agree that Albion will be that focused on SEB that the workhorse that is Andrew Keogh will sneak a winning goal in the final minutes…

This might sound a bit chicken oriental, but I’d play Kyle alongside SEB tonight. Albion have struggled badly with the aerial threat and I think Kyle would cause them all sorts of problems.

Or we could play Bothroyd? Oh no wait, Mick has given him away to someone else battling it out for promotion.

Can’t see anything beyond an Albion win, as much as it pains me to say it. Albion are a far better team, and I think this positive blip in form is masking what has otherwise been a dire season for Wolves, and is merely papering over the cracks.

I don’t believe in the crowd are the 12th man business, although I do believe the crowd can give the players a major boost if they needed it for this game (maybe the same thing it’s just the 12th man nonsense which i don’t agree with).

I think albion will be vulnerable from set pieces, i just don’t understand why Keily doesn’t have anyone on the posts for corners and certain set pieces. This can only benefit wolves with our aerial threat, hence i think Collins will get a goal or two, he may have a hand in an albion goal as well unfortunately, although I don’t think it will make a great deal of difference as wolves will win 3-1 (fingers crossed, SEB and Phillips getting the others).

Molineux will be rocking tonight and I can’t wait, role on 4 o’clock so I can get home and get down the pub! (certain ones are open!!)

Massive game for both teams but I have been really disappointed with SKY’s coverage or lack of for this match. It had about a 20 second interview with Tony M, no-one from wolves and then went to Hull and Barnsley, scandalous!!!

Can’t see it being a particular adventurous game tonight as neither team can afford to lose.
A loss tonight would put immense pressure on Saturday’s must-win game against Ipswich which if we lost both home matches against WBA and Ipswich would effectively finish our season. The Baggies will still fancy an automatic finish considering Bristol City have 2 forthcoming difficult matches at Stoke and Sheffield United. And more importantly they will be desperate not to chance their arms with another Wembley visit. We must not also forget that they will lose sky’s parachute payments at the end of the season if they are not promoted, along with possibly a fair chunk of their team.
Mick McCarthy cannot afford to lose this match and has been known to be unadventurous when required !!
I do not expect a classic and feel a 1-1 score draw may not be the end of the world for either team

Another big derby day has arrived with both Wolves and Albion having plenty to play for although the latter sure of at least a play-off place, Wolves minds are not at rest about it.
It`s true Albion have had the better of this derby since last season but now Wolves are due to come out on top. They are playing well while Albion don`t look all that solid in defence. So Sylvan and co have a realistic chance to topple our rivals in one of the most anticipated matches between the sides in recent times. It`s a pity it will not be on the box!
One thing I would not like to happen is for the two teams to meet in the play-offs semis like last season when they had Phillips as their match-winner. Hope he stays on the bench tonight as I regard him in the Gerd Muller mould when a ball just hits him has a good chance of finishing in the net.
So come on Wolves let`s win this big match and make all Gold and Black supporters all over the world go to sleep with a big smile on their faces.

“Although recently voted the best derby game in the UK, TV cameras will tonight be at Oakwell and not Molineux, covering the glamorous all Yorkshire affair between Hull and Barnsley. I always feel that the cameras are just an unwanted distraction and I’m glad that this game will be only be seen by a full house of paying punters.”

bit hard for some of us Nathan who have to find a internet radio link at 4.30 in the morning!!!

Really concerned but really up for it. Hopefully the boys will be too. We need to be hard at them for a whole 90+ mins like we were last year. No defensive snoozing please Jody/ Neil.

G’day. Already said that was a bit thoughtless of me for those of you that can’t make the game.

I just hate the distraction of the cameras.

    Apologies.

Nate – I’ve listened to Wolves games on the radio for almost 20 years, and have heard some thrilling matches including the famous penalty shootout against Sheff Wed in the FA cup back in 1994-1995, so I am pretty used to the nerves that comes with listening to it through the radio.
Fortunately these days I am able to listen to every game through Wolves World as well as watching highlighs, which does make it easier to support the team overseas, compared to a rare game at BBC Five live back in the 90´es, so I guess I will be allright.
But I do get your point and man I wish I could be at the beatiful Golden palace tonight..
    Make it noisy mates!!

Hi Da, er Jiwal, you took my score guess, well nearly. I predict an all out monster battle the likes Sparta v Xerxes could never have fathomed. It will be Gladiators and Gladiator rolled into one. Epic. Legendary. Forever.
and boring cos like mentioned earlier both teams have too much to play for to make an adventure out of his one. Wolves will play a 1980 cup final formation of 6-2-1-1 and win one nil after a long hoof ball from Hibbert to Grey. Cheers from a rather cool Queensland tonight.

Unfortunately I can’t be at the game tonight which is gutting but the way my heart is racing I could do with hiding in a cave till tomorrow. My heart says 2-1 Wolves but the head says 2-1 Steptoes with McCarthy opting to stifle the game rather than going at them all guns blazing. Come on me babbies bring some sunshine into my life…to all you lucky sods going there tonight sing your hearts out and NO booing, we dont want to give the steptoes any ammo

Rollercoaster? surely the wrong word. We haven’t had any great ups this season. Lots of great downs, ask the guys about Morecombe! Wolves have been mid league all season give or take a couple places.

Even beating the Baggies won’t help really. Look at the table, I do even though half the team don’t, two victories (the games in hand) will put us above Crystal Palace but that is just barely in the playoffs. Getting all three points will only gain one place and still out of the playoffs.

The last few games are going to be tough. The game tonight will be enjoyable as it is afterall a traditional rivalry. Certainly not pivotal for the baggies but if we win will allow us fans a thought of what “may have been” with a good manager and management team. Something be sorely lack.

Wolves are where they deserve to be an average team in an average division. Albion to win tonight and go back to the top of the table
