Kennel staff in battle of under dog
Tuesday 15th April 2008, 11:10AM BST.
Dogs at a kennels near Wolverhampton will be showing support for their namesakes during tonight’s football derby.
Rivalry over the match has spilled into Sunnyside Kennels after workers created lucky mascots by naming dogs after their heroes.
A labrador and cross-breed pooch being cared for at the kennels, in Dark Lane, Coven, have been given novel names by football-mad staff at the site.
Bully, a nine-month-old black labrador, was named by Wolves fan Kelly Grubb, who is confident of a result in her team’s favour.
And a six-year-old cross-breed has been named Baggie by Tipton-based West Bromwich Albion fan Emma Hadley, aged 23. Receptionist Nicki Naik said: “It is quite funny really.
“The rivalry of tonight’s football match has spilled over into the kennels and so we have dogs themed from both teams.”
Kelly, aged 24, from Tipton, said: “Tonight’s match should be really good and I’m really looking forward to it.
“Bully has to be one of my favourite dogs here now.”
