Zoltan Gera scored the only goal of the game which saw the visitors hit the woodwork twice before scoring.

Wolves had plenty of chances but failed to get on the end of any of them.

It was a passionate encounter with the first half in particular being an end-to-end thriller.

Now tell us what you think. Post your comments below.

Gutted. Could not see the game but it sounded like we gave them too much respect and played too deep. The stats have them as the better side. Looks like our season is over unless something freakish happens, like we win all our games. Probably for the best, we simply are not good enough and the leadership has been poor all season. We had to win those last two games to prove we are up there but we ended up with one point. Hull and WBA to go up and I fancy Palace to nick the third place and do a Derby. Off to get rat arsed.

It appears to me that Wolves fans are getting confused with the corporate aims of WWFC. The club will produce very good profits, which is why they exist. This silliness of trying to compete in the Premiership against clubs with billions available is just silly.

Tailor your suit to suit your cloth, is the message!

Wolves will *NEVER* see the Premiership for more than one season. Wolves are just a fringe club, that is making its owners a lot of money!

You know – over these past seasons – my antipathy for WBA has mellowed. They have been, and continue to be a superior side, with a good manager who has built and invested wisely. They play flowing football. They score in abundance. WE, are in a halfway house – building, strengthening, getting things right, bringing people on and making mistakes along the way- naturally! Molineux was incredible today – the atmosphere…well…..thunderous. Has this always been the case from our impatient supporters? I watch rugby now and am always
incredulous at the respect, one word – repsect – from players to officials, from fans to one another, in this game – played by gentlemen designed for thugs. Give WBA their kudos…at this moment in time. regardless what has transpired, they deserve their success. For my money – HOW WONDERFUL it would be to see thew whole of the glorious West MIdlands represented in the Prem! As for Wolves, my support is unfaltering, I remember 3 seasons back, we had no capacity for the basics of the game. In another 2 years, we might be no further, but…..seeds are being planted!!!

Isn’t it funny how all these so called baggies fans from all across the country suddenly crawl from out of the wood work, or should that be the muck heap, just because the won a match. For neutrals it was a great game, but it did show that we are not capable of promotion. Our team is just not quality enough. Is this the fault of the manager or the players? As Mick bought most of them I blame him. We need more quality. All of this young and hungry talk just smacks of ‘promotion’ on the cheap. Why did Hayward sell to Morgan? Because he promised to invest millions. Where has the money gone? While Mick is a reasonable manager, he’s not the best. Bring in a winner like Paul Ince and start splashing some cash Morgan. It’s time we had some real success, not just a lame one season wonder. We do not want to be another Derby County.

But is doesn’t mean we won’t make the play-offs. We played OK and were just outplayed by a very good footballing side, We need to focus on Ipswich and Cardiff.

The Baggies have the better team, play better football and have the better manager. It is no disgrace to lose to them. As I’ve said all along, they will be promoted and deserve to be.

The tragedy is not that we lose to or are behind the Baggies, it’s the fact that we’re behind the likes of Hull and Stoke which hurts and that beyond buying young and hungry players, we don’t seem to have much of a clue about tactics or team selection.

“Get a grip baggies, you’ve bought success, we work for it!”

That is pretty much the wrong way around. Year after year Wolves tried to buy success. It has been the Albion that have had to work for it mate. No major investors , no consortium buy outs. It’s been financial prudence, steady investment in staff/players, training academies. Money gained from promotion (against the odds and against teams that have had much more money thrown at them), has generated much needed cash. If there has ever been a team that has had to work for its success it is the Albion.

It amyt not be pretty but the way to beast albion is bog men form the start, we are nevr gonne out pass them.
Kyle should have started and messed their defenders about instead we created nothing but the ball still got lumped forward all game. At leaast Kyle would have scared their defence.
It ain’t eastwood but the tactics?
One dimensional McCarthy, panic at the back lump it forward, flick on hope for some movement goal? Has it been aby different all season? Sorry flick goes to the wing and then cross…. or Jarvis the only creative player we have gets the ball and runs at a defence scaring them to death.

Just back from the game, had to sit in the upper steve bull as my brother in law got me a ticket, id say we deserved to win, by no means did we pass wolves off the pitch and mm is right the wolves put a shift in, but wolves lacked that quality in the final third, hitting the ball long on a greasy pitch meant keily swept up the ball maybe 20 times. The general consensus around me in the ground was it just wasnt wolves night and they didnt really look like scoring. I was glad to see the albion go man for man at set peices rather than zonal marking and it seamed to pay off, cus we didnt look like conceding from set plays all night. Thought morrison and gera were terrific and greening and koren won a lot of second balls in the middle, phillips movement too is different class at this level. To all the wolves fans that think well come back down like derby, the difference is we keep the ball and move it around the pitch, if you give the ball away in the big boys league, you will get punnished. Forgive me, forget the wembley result last year, derby were one of the worst sides in the division last season, they just wollop it up the pitch and hope for the knockdowns. Albion have the players to keep the ball which is why if we get to the premier league we have a pretty good chance of staying there. It wasnt a great local derby, 1 yellow card says it all, and there wasnt much atmosphere either, at this stage of the season id say it was mainly due to what was at stake. It was the right result at the end of the game no doutb and i wish wolves the best for the final 3 games.

Although I knew the recent glimmer of hope was based on some lucky wins and the nature of this stupid league I started to believe. Not anymore. if we stay with MM next season will be the same, we have good players but lousy tactics. I listened to MM defending tonight’s performance but then saw the highlight on Sky Sports News, the goal was a joke, no one near him, they hit the bar twice and looked in a different class. Their manager knows his stuff, period. So I will stop logging onto the E&S site ten times a day as it is depressing the hell out of me. Another wasted season and no real hope. I have no idea where all the negative posts come from. Reality is that the Baggies had a goal, that was to get back into the Premiership.

Think of the game plan, need better players, that was their main plan. They went out an got them. Not conference guys, REAL quality players with a resume! Spend a lot of money to get them. Ok, that was what they did.

They have management that understands football and what it takes. We have an acountant (penny pusher),Builder (bob the builder comes to mind)and a muppet.

Why would it be any surprise to anyone other than the brain dead fans who can’t figure it out, that based on that the baggies are top and we are mid league. I think I lost the plot after the first game.

Nothing between the two keepers and defences. Huge difference in quality between the midfield and forwards. Compare:- superb footballer Gera right side of midfield for them, we have a 34 year old left back playing there for us. They have Phillips and Morrison, players who LOOK UP and PICK SOMEONE OUT when they have the ball in advanced areas, we have Keogh and Jarvis who don’t. They kick it anywhere. Greening out on his own. Calm, composed, never loses possession. We have Gibson, flapping away, conceding possession. No contest but fairer score would have been 6-4 to them.

Albion were head and shoulders above us in every department and 3-0 wouldn’t of flattered them to be honest. We need 6 players in the summer and a new first team coach, all the problems started when Taff Evans left, it’s not McCarthy that’s the problem, it’s Terry Connor, how the hell can professional footballers suddenly play so average? Why oh why do most of you stoop so low, talk about foul and abusive?? OK the baggies won and are probably the best team in this league at the moment. We WWFC are rebuilding and will be back sooner or later and then we shall be back to the glory days. Over the years it is probably an even split with WWFC coming out on top thru the 1950′s and early 60′s, everything is cyclic unless you have the millions the top 5 or 6 in the Prem have. So come on lads calm it down!

Not a lot to say, totally out played, out passed, out classed. There’s only two players who would get into albions side, Hennessey and SEB.

At the end of the day, we just arn’t good enough and always bottle it on the big stage at home.

Darren Gibson couldn’t care less about the meaning of this derby, he’s happy enough to pick up his wage and head back to Man Utd and play with Rooney and Ronaldo.

Craddock and Collins, not good enough. Yes Craddock can tackle but his passing and distribution is terrible. Collins is just Collins. How he plays professional football, i don’t know.

Elokobi and Foley? Too many mistakes. Yes they can run and tackle but again, there distribution is not at the standard you need to go up. What was Elokobi doing on the goal? He just stood there n let Gera run past him n tap it in!

And again, he changes the shape, puts Keogh onto the right wing and Freddy up top.

When will Mick realise this doesn’t work! Keogh can’t play right wing!

I’d still give Mick another season, let’s see how we do with Kightly fully fit and perhaps one or two better defenders.

But i’m worried we’ll lose Hennessey in the summer.

A post from a real football fan. Last night the atmosphere was electric, no other derby in britain is close to this one. I feel wolves were the better side until albion scored then the way they kept the ball was frustrating but very impressive i must say. The ref gave everything albions way in the first 45 mins i saw mc carthy going spare at the 4th official and mowbray was his usual didnt care no passion self. phillips didnt look interested last night not the same effort as last season i think he knows his future is elsewhere and has to be miss of the season surely? wolves had an average age of 21 last night with only 3 experienced heads our kids did us proud and outfought the baggies for long periods. i think both clubs will get promoted with hull to win the league. albion need 6-7 players to stay up in the prem, robinson wont move because he cant pass medicals, gera will be lucky to get a move to wigan hes not a prem player and phillips will be gone, hoefkens has slated the club and area in his native country and dean kiely slated your fans, boing boing for now albion lets see whos laghing in the premiership next season. well done to both sets of fans THE BEST DERBY IN THE COUNTRY.

I thought it was an entertaining game rather than a great football match, but at this stage of the season it was about getting a job done and collecting three points. Contrasting styles of play, Wolves played with passion but their lack of quality in the final third showed in the end.
Gray played well, Collins does not look good enough yet for the first team, and SEB suffered at the hands of the experience of Clement. Jarvis looked threatening but failed to pick out a striker with a number of crosses. Albion on the other hand looked comfortable in all areas of the pitch, Greening was so cool, Koren busy, and we should have known Phillips would prove the difference between the sides. I am not gloating, just my honest opinion on how the game went, still think Wolves will make the playoffs due to how many home games you have left. Two wins from the remaining three should see the Baggies as champions, im still nervous though.

on the night quality won over “hoof and puff” football. loads of effort but no quality. simple as that.
even under pressure they kept the ball better didnt panic (until last five minutes where it was anywhere will do) i can accept defeat under most circumstances, but if MM picks oli and gibson in midfield again he deserves to be shot! never rated oli he has a turn circle of a tank, passing is poor and cant shoot, so whats the point in having him on the pitch let alone has our attacking midfielder??
then you look at greening (albions best player on night in my view) comfortable on ball, moves the ball when necessary to one of HIS players, and must of covered the whole of the pitch many times over.
ok so positives do i take from game……. erm the fact we have a young side, suppose thats all really. felt a bit sorry for SEB and keogh last night wasnt even feeding off scraps, they had to run back into our own half to try and create something and they are our strikers!! keogh and SEB were trying to do it all on there own, and rightly so because the midfield was so poor for us. i like players to “put a shift in” but sick of hearing that now,is it to much to ask for a bit of quality on the ball, distribution and keeping the ball??? not going to call for micks head yet, still 4 games left, and will pass my judgement then.
fairplay to the baggies though came to our place, turned us over and made us look silly in the process……….

It’s clear from the time of the early posts that many of you don’t go to the games (sorry southbank barmy army, doesn’t sound credible that you would miss this match!)The first half was well contested, with Wolves shading it. Albion played Wolves off the park in the second half. Tactically Albion are on a different planet and this has to be down to the manager and coaching staff. I would love Wolves to be competing in the Prem but I don’t see how we can ever survive. Portsmouth, West Ham, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Wigan, Reading, Bolton, Fulham, Blackburn; any one could fall through the trapdoor any time, yet any of them would be too strong for the best in the Championship. Wolves could still win the last four matches and gain a playoff place (without the threat of the best team in the division to stop them). Albion played well last night and deserved their win but (sour grapes time!) I can’t help thinking that in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

post 133 – c’mon now mate! forget buying a team to beat the baggies! they’ve shown over the last 10yrs that biding your time, sticking with a GOOD manager (take note Jez… DJ’s going to Wembley you muppet…), getting promoted, getting relegated (with the considerable parachute payments…), and not spending willy nilly (for example, like signing 50 strikers in one season and not playing them.. i can think of a few more..) means real growth nowadays. Think about it, what we’re seeing down the road now are the fruits of seeds planted when the Ginger Mourinho took over. I CAN’T STAND to see it, and i’m GUTTED it’s the Tesco’s, not us, but you have to respect their business plan, and see how it’s working. In many ways, we do need to strive to be like them, at least in the business sense. Well done Boggies, you deserve your 3pts and, should you be in the top two at the end of the season, you will have thoroughly deserved that too.

course, in an ideal world, we’d both be going up – there’d be no derby like the Black Country derby in ther Premier league!!

no wolves fans… we don’t need to look at MM.. everyone has got quite a good idea as to the capabilities of this man. he’s good, but not right.

we don’t need to look at Jez anymore either. We’ve all seen the decision’s he’s made. We all see that slimy ‘i want to be Peter Kenyon SOO BADLY’ look he gives everytime he’s pictured at Molinueax…

WE KNOW what to expect from these two. So i plead. Mr Morgan. You’re coming up to your first end of seaon with the greatest football club in the world. use it wisely, start planning for future success, however long it takes, and get Incy in. i think it’s as clear as daylight how that man’s going to work – he’s going to want to take control of all matters at the club (panicking yet Jez?), build a strong youth team, get the current bunch playing well (which we ALL know they can do), and establish us as a Premier League club.

We have the potential, the POTENTIAL, to be one of the biggest clubs in Europe again. Stop using money as an excuse. I’ve got a feeling Paul Ince DOES know the way – and under Sir Alex Ferguson, what better tutor.

Please, PLEASE think wisely in the summer Mr Morgan, about the future of the club. Because if you do this right, in 20yrs you could be the Chairman of a club winning, not just domestically, but in Europe too.

How much is your tenner going to be worth then?

(p.s. well done Baggies. it’ll be good to see at least ONE club from the Black Country trying to stop Ronaldo scoring 15times in a game next season!!)

I still think we’ll make the play-offs. Crystal Palace have 3 games left, 2 of which are away at Watford & Hull! We still have 4 to play, 3 at home including Ipswich & Cardiff who hardly ever win away and the away game at Coventry – who we should be able to beat.

I also think MM should be given one more season whatever happens. He said when he arrived he’d need 3 years and when you look at the players he’s bought in I think he deserves those 3 years. If we had only had the likes of Murray, Kightly, Jarvis & Davies fully fit for most of the season and SEB in from the start who knows what we could have achieved.

I reckon Albion will go up as champs with Hull second. I think it’ll be Stoke, Bristol C, Watford and Palace in the play-offs. Sorry wolves, think you’ve left yourselves too much to do.

Money does not buy sucess, you have to spend well. What’s happened with Chelsea has proven that. The’ve had billions to spend and are still behind Man Utd.

WBA have spent well. It’s interesting that some wolves fans (I say some as the majority have been very gracious) are bleating on about how much albion have spent.8/9 years ago, the albion were skint and struggling to stay in this division, the money we’ve had has come from being in the top flight so we have earnt it.

Wolves have also spent a lot of money in the past and where has it got them. This is all fact, not gloating. Instead of bleating, get behind your team and we’ll most certainly get behind ours. The better footy team won, simple as, nothing to do with money.

Comment 165 was the biggest load of drivel I’ve ever read in my entire life!! As for Phillips not looking interested, well apart from setting up the goal, hitting the post and scaring wolves to death every time he got the ball. Phillips is a class act with a capital C.

Wolves outplaying us for long periods – so what long periods were those, please tell me I must have missed them.

As for your comments about Kiely, Robinson and Gera. Can’t say much about Kiley as he was a spectator for much of the game. Robinson’s probably the most committed player I’ve ever seen. Gera IS premiership class which is why premierships clubs are supposedly after him.

Think you must have been watching the same game as Mick McCarthy. Or perhaps you are Mick McCarthy as he lives in cloud cuckoo land aswell.

Must concede Albion deserve to be top of the league, some achievement for a small club. Maybe you can fill The Hawthorns next season at £1 per ticket.

Any Wolves fan who currently does not, or can not, admit that Albion are superior at the moment really does not understand football.

223 Baggie Ed – nice one! yeah, i know. i reckon i’ve been playing Championship Manager too long! it’s not unrealistic though i guess. just need the right people at the top making the right decisions, and an awful lot of patience. it’s worked with ManU, you can see it happening with Everton, and i’d say your lot are about 6-7 seasons behind them. Who knows, in 5yrs time, you boys mi… and i struggle to complete this sentence without bursting into tears (lol)… might be gunning for a UEFA spot….

oh god, i need to shower now! :)

How stupid are you? Our strikers haven’t scored for 2 games? NO ONE IN YOUR TEAM HAS SCORED FOR TWO GAMES. Typical thick dingle!

I don’t think we have ever finished bottom of the premier league in our 3 seasons in there. Tell me again, where did Wolves finish when they went up?
