Villa blog: Ignore the rumours

randy.jpgIt’s been a good week for Villa fans, writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams.

I haven’t yet grown tired of watching our stunning second goal against Bolton, there have been some very positive interviews from the players and Martin O’Neill, and our reserves won again with some eye catching performances from our young stars.

To cap it all off the situation at Birmingham City has provided some comedy for the end of the season.

I can’t wait to hear what songs the Holte End can come up with for the derby which is now tantalisingly close.

It’s a shame that despite the positivity, some sections of the media can still find room to criticize the club and its owners.

I’ve seen a very silly rumour that we have no money to spend in the summer being banded around, and what a load of nonsense that is.

The current owners have been nothing but clear, honest and up front with the fans, something that should be appreciated especially considering what goes on at other clubs.

General Krulak, Randy’s close friend and business partner, has been very clear in his statements that Martin will get the full backing of the owners whenever required in the transfer market.

It is a shame that such comments seem to fall on deaf ears in some cases, with scare-mongering preferred to trusting a man taking up many hours of his time communicating directly with fans on their forums.

Personally I think we will see Martin O’Neill stick to his game plan.

We have looked stronger this year and should be able to attract better players having performed so much better in the league.

He won’t spend silly money, but if a player comes along he feels strongly will do a job for us, he will try to get them.

Remember, Ashley Young was seen by many as overpriced when we signed him, and now he looks a bargain.

We can only hope for more of the same in the summer, and don’t let anyone tell you Randy Lerner will stop it from happening.
