When it comes to music, keeping it in the family is nothing new. From the Carpenters to the Corrs, the Osmonds to the Everlys, singing siblings have definitely left their mark on the charts.

But Wombourne and District Choral Society have gone one better – not only do they have twin sopranos, they have six married couples, a couple of cousins and set of sisters. Choir spokeswoman Katherine Dixson said the choir was a fine example of family life.

She said: “Choral singing at its best demands listening, supporting, complementing, communicating and even forgiving each other’s little misdemeanours – an advert for family life at its most harmonious.”

Identical twins Janet Williams, of Seisdon, and Sheila Duffy, of Merry Hill, joined the choir early last year. The 66-year-olds said music had always been important to them and they spent their childhood singing.

Mrs Williams, the younger by five minutes, said: “It’s great having so many family ties at the choir at the moment, there is a really lovely atmosphere. Singing is very important to me and my sister. It’s important to keep active at our time of life and it’s nice that we have something to share.”

The choir will be continuing the family theme with its next concert as husband and wife Adrian Clarke and Sarah Pring will be joining members as bass and contralto soloists. The pair, who have performed with renowned opera companies around the world, will be conducted by Wombourne musical director – and Adrian’s younger brother – Ian Clarke.

Katherine Dixson added: “This won’t be a cue for an outbreak of fraternal rivalry as the trio already work together in perfect harmony with Ian accompanying Sarah and Adrian on the piano for their vocal group On Song.”

The group’s next show will be Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at St John’s-in-the-Square Church, Wolverhampton, on April 19 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available on the door or by calling 01902 744447.
