Bridgnorth 2 Dudley Sports 0
Saturday 5th April 2008, 8:47AM BST.
This game swung on two things, poor decisions from the Sports defence inside the first twenty minutes resulting in Bridgnorth taking a two goal early start, and the second really poor referring through out which Sports could do nothing about.
Sports finished the game with six yellow cards and Bridgnorth only one.
Bridgnorths yellow card was the worst tackle of the game by a long way and should have resulted in a straight red.
Chris Raybone’s great run down the left resulted in a two footed lunge of the grounds with all studs showing from Bridgnorth’s fullback, the fullback caught Raybone just below the knee, resulting in Raybone having to be carried off and spending the night in hospital, the defender only received a yellow card, to the Sports players and managements disbelief.
This could have changed the game as the incident took place in the first quarter of the game, but when you play away at a team that is at the top of the League, referees seem to lack the bottle that is needed to make the right decisions, choosing instead to dish out yellow cards for really petty things.
Sports gave it a real go second half and with a bit of luck could have got back into the game, but it was not to be.
Sports will be hoping there dry run in front of goal will end on Tuesday night when they entertain AFC Wulfs in the first leg of their League Cup Semi Final at Dudley Sports.
