Vote for Black Country talent
Thursday 20th March 2008, 11:01AM GMT.
We want your nominations for the Wall of Fame honouring the Black Country’s wealth of home-grown talent, which is being created as part of celebrations to mark Wolverhampton Civic Hall’s 70th anniversary.
Some of the greatest stars have graced the stage over seven decades.
The Civic is 70 years old on May 12 and bosses want fans to play their part in honouring the region’s stars as singers, musicians and artists on the wall being created at the North Street venue.
Any stars with links to the Black Country, whether they were born here or studied here, may be eligible for a place on the wall.
The region has produced Walsall-born Noddy Holder, frontman of top 70s and 80s band Slade, Led Zeppelin star Robert Plant, who grew up in Halesowen, Dudley comedian Lenny Henry and award-winning Smethwick actress Julie Walters.
Who do you think should be honoured?
Who do YOU think should be on the Civic’s Wall of Fame? Which local star should have their name honoured in the Black Country’s biggest venue for years to come?
You can pick a musician, artist, actor, comedian – anyone whose home-grown talent deserves recognising.
To nominate a name to appear on the Wall of Fame, write to Wall Of Fame, The Editor, 51-53 Queen Street, Wolverhampton WV1 1ES; email promotions@expressandstar.co.uk or nominate by posting your selection below.

I nominate singer Connie Talbot of Streetly, Metropolitan Borough of Walsall. Connie was the 6-year old runner up in Britain’s Got Talent in 2007. Her debut album “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” was awarded a gold record after selling over 100,000 copies in the UK. Her videos on YouTube have had millions of hits and have attracted worldwide attention. She is an outstanding representative of the Black Country an deserves a place on the Wall of Fame.

Oops, in my previous nomination of Connie Talbot I did not give the right title of her gold record album. The correct title of the album is “Over The Rainbow”

It was a toss up between Robert Plant & Noddy Holder but as I used to watch Noddy & Co from the ‘NBetweens through to Slade & beyond he gets my vote.

Glenn Hughes, he could have taken Trapeze to the top of the world before he left for Deep Purple, then sadly it all went pear shaped.
